i don't hear sound till i play at least 1 hr

i have to play at least 1 hr ... to start hearing the sounds like.. laughing (F Claps (F5) and musics... but i hear the stepsounds and wind...
anyone knows why?

How fast is your internet connection? It's possible that SL is just taking an insanely long time to download the audio files. Hover your mouse pointer over the little speaker icon in the upper right corner of your screen. It should be to the left of the money and other icons. The tooltip that pops up will tell you how many audio files are remaining to download.

As for your keyboard problem, SL has some pretty serious issues when it comes to working on anything but a US101/QWERTY layout. Even some Canadian keyboards don't work properly. Needless to say, this is really annoying for those people who don't use American keyboards. If there's enough pressure for them to fix it, the Lindens probably will.

You could also check your network preferences, go to custom speed and up your sound download speed.

Mine have been quite delayed ever since... hmmm... 1.1 perhaps. Upping those helped some. But never an hour... perhaps 3-5 mins to hear my first IM beep.

As for the wind and step sounds they're local to your machine, so dont have to download.

That was a pretty common problem in earlier releases of the SL client. But it still happens in areas where a lot of sounds are trying to play. Last night I had at one point well over a hundred incoming audio streams; and I heard one particular sound play over an hour after I'd initiated it.

As always, the optimal setting for audio in Preferences is Mute.

Note however that Mute doesn't actually stop the client from downloading audio, it just stops the client from playing it. Yes, this is stupid.

Also, from what I understand, the "graphics/audio" slider in Preferences > Network is a lie. Sure, it affects graphics bandwidth, but audio pretty much does its own thing, regardless of what numbers you put in there.

Perhaps someone else can verify this, but i'm pretty sure that bug was fixed a while back. I remember reporting that as a bug a long time ago, might have been during 1.1 Preview.

As far as I can tell, checking Mute in Preferences and then restarting the client does actually prevent audio streams from eating any of your bandwidth.

You're correct about those sliders though. It's smoke and mirrors. The Roll-off slider sort of seems to do what the Distance slider ought to do.

Whatever...it just pretty much sucks. Imagine if RL sounds took an hour to be heard. I'd demand my money back.
