Hello.. I am about to buy a new laptop and I would appreciate any of your opinions on what the best laptop would be for running SL in the best possible way (ultra settings?). I don't want to use Mac and I'd prefer a HP but I'm open to other suggestions as well. On another note i've read somewhere that HD graphic cards are not supported by the 1.23 version client.. An official answer on that would be great too. Thanks :)

I would prefer a 17" screen and my budget is up to 1500 euro (appx $2200 USD) although I'm wondering if its worth the money without HD capabilities so cheaper options are welcome too... Size and weight don't bother me much since it will be only going with me from home to airplane and back home 3-5 times a year.

Can you comment on approximate budget and screen size?

HP seems to be using ATI for a lot of their media PCs, so the higher end options there may be problematic.

Sager Notebooks also has 15" and 17" with the GTX 280m, as well as an 18.4" with dual GTX 280m's in SLI. These are also not cheap.

I have an Asus G51 with a quad core and a GTX 260m. I can run with everything on high. The quad version starts at about $1700, but Newegg has two versions with dual core CPUs. The one with the 2.53 GHz is on sale at the moment of $1299, and is probably the best value at the moment. BestBuy has a G51 with a 2 GHz dual core, but it has a lower resolution screen and comes with Best Buy's one-year warranty instead of Asus' 2 year service. But it is cheap at $999. A new G51 with an i7 will be available in a few days.

The two new Alienware models are also very good. The M17x can support dual GTX 260m,s or GTX 280m's, or a single GTX 260m. It uses Core 2 CPUs. The new M15x supports a GTX 260m and has an i7 CPU.

That's just a few possibilities. Any of those will run SL at ultra settings with antialiasing. The best cheapest on this list is the G51 from Best Buy at $999, but the best value would be the Newegg model with the 2.53 GHz C2D, which has better specs and warranty.

I can make some better recommendations if you can indicate budget and the size/weight you are willing to carry.
