Before you ask, yes I have cleared my cache. That seems to be the first thing people ask when I tell them my problems.
You see, I always have to have the lag meter up now, as sort of a checking on how horrible it will be. My client seems to nearly ALWAYS be in the red for lag. It's either in the red, or in the green, and it's only in the green when I'm at my home rez spot.
My trouble is not just lag, though I think this problem is related to the lag. Whenever I'm hanging around, I will randomly start the falling animation. This often happens on log in, in which case I must quickly sit down, or I will literally float away. This happens every time I play SL. At some point, I will turn upside down, and start floating away. Sometimes I just turn upside down and can't move. While I can press fly and then stop flying, this is only a temporary fix, and even then it sometimes doesn't help.
I have cleared all four cache, and I can hardly go to any place other than my home rez spot. I'm getting to the point I have to quit SL, because it's no fun when it's being constantly interrupted.
Can someone please help?

System specs? No can fixy plobrem with no knowing system specs. Best wild guess, it sounds like a networking problem. Are you experiencing any packet loss? What's your ping sim at? If it's much over 100 ms, the symptoms you describe would be expected. Assuming your computer's specs are up to snuff, I'd suggest you power-cycle your modem and router, and if the problem persists after that, run a traceroute to try to see where the bottleneck is. It's possible the issue might be in between you and SL somewhere. If that's the case, there's probably little you can do about it, but talking to your ISP might help.

I'd try doing a "Detach All" to make sure you aren't having any problems from scripted attachments such as flying aids, in addition to Chosen's advice.
If you're on a wireless network, you could try a wired connection and see it that makes a difference.

Rough reply from someone who knows her, she has a dell (e7200 i believe?)
RAM: 3.0 GB

Thanks, Naiki, but unfortunately, that's not much of a help. No doubt Dell has made many different models with countless hardware configurations that could happen to include an e7200 processor and 3GB of RAM. If your friend would care to list her full specs, we might be able to pinpoint an area of weakness. If not, there's not a whole lot we can do.

Yeah, 'cause now we can put the blame on the southbridge right? It's SL, it's been broke from day 1, it'll never ever be fully functional. Just roll with it like the rest of us =P

From: Samuel Geiger Yeah, 'cause now we can put the blame on the southbridge right? It's SL, it's been broke from day 1, it'll never ever be fully functional. Just roll with it like the rest of us =P No need to be so sarcastic, Samuel. I believe you know full well where I was going with the question. Fact: SL runs well on hardware that is up to the task, and runs poorly on midrange and low end machines. It's a resource intensive application that demands a high-spec computer. Knowing the OP's configuration can go a long way toward pinpointing bottlenecks in performance. You'd do well not to pretend otherwise, just because you might get some kind of kick out of demonstrating your own cynicism.

I'm pretty sure everyone is aware SL has been more laggy in the last couple to few weeks. SL goes through bouts of heavier than normal lag occassionally. It's seldom such that it prevents most activities on computers that are mid to above mid range performance wise......but it can be a minor inconvenience at times. The people with machines barely able to run SL on the best of days have the most problems........and my observation is that it's those people who constantly chim in with snide/sarcastic remarks about performance. It's also also those same people who claim "it's not my computer or my connection".........yet refuse to list their specs.
I don't even attempt to help those people anymore.

Founds graphics card in chat logs. So re postin incase it helps. She wonts be abouts untill tommorows, will throw her at this thread thens ^^
RAM: 3.0 GB Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7200 @2.53GHz Card Name : Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family
Shes also did a traceroute (used WinMTR) to a region, it didnt give her any response. No error, just carried on working not giving any response. She then did a traceroute to google.com to see if she could get anything from anywhere. The followin was the result.

Internet wise, are you behind a router? what anti virus are you running and do you have a software firewall? and double check to make sure your network bandwith isnt set too high or too low under your in game preferences. This sounds like a networking issue, the above questions answered should lead to it's solution... Key word should.

My friends and I have been seeing really bag lag lately too. When I signed up in 2007 I didn't experience much in the way of lag. But since then it seems that every update to the servers brings more lag. I hear people complaining about it pretty much everywhere I go. I have two Macs that I get on from. The first is a newer Imac with plenty of ram and video ram as well. The one I normally use is a macbook Pro. And yes, I've cleared cache etc. The Imac is on a dedicated T1 line and at home I have a 7 mbps connection. My Macbook has the following config: Model Name: MacBook Pro Model Identifier: MacBookPro4,1 Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed: 2.5 GHz Number Of Processors: 1 Total Number Of Cores: 2 L2 Cache: 6 MB Memory: 4 GB Bus Speed: 800 MHz Boot ROM Version: MBP41.00C1.B00 SMC Version (system): 1.27f2 NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT: Chipset Model: GeForce 8600M GT Type: GPU Bus: PCIe PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 512 MB Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID: 0x0407 Revision ID: 0x00a1 ROM Revision: 3212 Displays: Color LCD: Resolution: 1440 x 900 Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB888 Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Built-In: Yes Display Connector: Status: No Display Connected Would love to see us back at the 2007 performance.

Re Chosen's "you know full well where I was going with the question. Fact: SL runs well on hardware that is up to the task, and runs poorly on midrange and low end machines"... Sure, but a lot of us are frustrated at this program that seems to work against us. For instance: my laptop's only a year old, I picked it specifically because it was the right system for Second Life (powerful gaming computer meeting all the latest SL specs), and it ran SL beautifully. Then LL came out with 1.23, I installed it, and suddenly I could barely move or do any tasks, what with the whole environment running like molasses. Ever since 1.23 came out, I've been reading the forums and trying every suggestion I come across. (Yes, I know the Preferences menu like the back of my hand by now...) Anyway, what has worked? Only one thing: Removing 1.23 from the laptop and reinstalling ol' perfect 1.22. Sigh. So that's why some of us wind up getting sarcastic and fidgety. Because it isn't always our systems' fault. [P.S. Outsider proggies such as Emerald are also molasses on my comp, since they're 1.23ers.]

From: Chosen Few No need to be so sarcastic, Samuel. So explain to me how people were running it on high end machines in 2003? lets be serious here for a moment.. yes a lot of SL problems are the user machine (usually the graphics card) However.. Ive got friends that have some of the best systems money can buy and SL still lags like no one's business... The simple fact is the server architecture is not designed for lots of activity on 1 sim.. its designed for very low activity on all sims... So when you have more than 10 people in a sim things start to get a little laggy.. Try going to a popular info hub and .. well you get the idea... The fact is that the server architecture needs to change to an intelligent dynamic system where the servers supply the bandwidth where it is needed instead of 2300 (yes thats how many we have) all running 1 sim each.. .. so instead of that where we have hundreds and possibly a thousand servers all idling on sims that have no one in them... we can have hundreds and possibly a thousand sims that dont have a server at the moment because no one is in the sim... but as soon as someone teleports or logs in at that sim.. The Central system assigns a server to that sim and then assigns more to that sim when more people enter.. you go somewhere super popular like the bay city airport during any peak time.. or the gor hub.. and youll see what im talking about.. These sims often crash because there is only a single server running it... and the sims often crash due to the overwork on the server.. Which are only AMD dual core opterons...
