Teleporting

Anyone else having trouble teleporting?

I have to relog everytime I want to go somewhere and then relog again just to get back home.

Its getting to be annoying!

My teleports fail sometimes when I'm trying to leave a busy sim. I'll usually end up somewhere under the floor too when that happens.

I would suggest, when running into trouble, tping home first. I've noticed that sometimes a tp home will work where one to another location won't. Might be related to that particular sim, I don't know, but it's worth a shot. Or try flying to a nearby sim where it's less laggy and tp from there.

I'm having issues teleporting as well. I thought perhaps it was just the location I was going, however I went to a place I went to earlier this morning and am still having issues. It seems both my husband and I on two seperate computers cannot teleport anywhere. We're stuck at home.

From a post I made in another forum, regarding problems I am having with client version 1.23.4, which may be related to this thread:

"I'm having huge problems since being forced to install this version. So far as I can work out, any time I enter sight range of a few avatars, the client just shuts down. I first noticed it when teleporting places, but have since noticed that it also happens when I move within sight range of a group of avatars either crossing into a sim, or even going past them in a neighbouring sim. A couple of days ago I tested turning characters off using the advanced menu and found all was normal, but then instantly crashed the moment I opted to see avatars again.

It is clear to me that something with this client regarding rendering avatars is seriously flawed and am wondering if anyone else has experienced similar problems, or may have an idea of a solution. No suggestions about upgrading my computer please, as my finances at the moment mean that I haven't purchased meat for more than a month, so luxuries such as a new computer are out of the question. Also note that when I was still on v1.22 I didn't have any problems at all, other than the usual random occasional nonsense.

I am guessing that something with the new client is aimed at powerful computers only and this is part of LLs strategy to get rid of all of the non-affluent people and turn SL into a toy for the wealthy only. Note that I currently assign the client to only 1 chip, otherwise my craptop overheats, and I have tested with both running and found that the same happens, but I still have major overheating issues like this anyway.

I have looked through all of the options available and have everything set in my usual manner regarding sliders at minimum and various things deselected using advanced, but I can't find anything else I can do which may help, other than turning characters off permanently, which is rather daft. I have also looked through the debug settings and tried a few things regarding avatar LOD etc and have found that nothing makes any difference.

Maybe there is something I am missing though and any ideas will be welcomed, as this is currently ruining my experience in SL and making me consider leaving (or letting SL push me out, as it can be viewed)."

For some time now I have had tp issues ~ I would try and get to a new LM and SL seemed to decide weather I could get there or not. What would happen is I would teleport and the screen would go black and start to load a progress bar it would say "Contacting new region" and then just sit there till eventually it would crash and give me a gray screen saying "view IM and Chat or quit" if I cancelled before the end I had about 20 seconds before I would also crash and teleports would all be blocked. I just used to avoid these places until the other day this happened ofter lindens updated and restarted my home sim I could no longer go there. Man I was so p**sed off and with none of the normal solutions helping I did some research. The solution is as follows

The reason it seems it will not connect is updated DNS server protocols that my ADSL Router although only 6 months old only partially supports. To fix this you have 2 options

1 - Replace your ADSL router modem with a different brand

2 - Upgrade the firmware on the ADSL router modem to the latest version. This is the one I chose being that my ADSL Router modem was only 6 months old you can aquire an updated version of the firmware from your ADSL Router Modem manufacturers website and intstall it. The menu on mine accessable by going to 192.168.1.1. and entering the username and password would bring up a control menu for my ADSL Router modem. It has an option under the tools menu for update. I chose this and used the updated firmware to upgrade my unit to the latest. It is important to note that YOU MUST only use the versions of firmware for your model unit. DO NOT use one that is close or something. The wrong firmware may make your modem completely unusable. If you are not confident with this I would get a computer savy friend to help or just buy a new ADSL router modem, the linksys units by cisco work well.

After upgrading my firmware I find not only can I get to my home sim but all sims, and all of the places I used to have problems getting to I have no problems with. All my teleport issues I ever had were fixed by this one thing. The firmware upgrade was free and was realitivley straight forward once I tracked down an upgraded version of the firmware.

Hope this is useful for many SL people I am happy I can now get home again
