I am looking at buying a Shuttle PC ... but there are so many options. One attractive one is the WCG G5 8300g , re-certified box used (perhaps?) in the World Cyber Games.

It only comes with the nVidia GeForce 6600 256MB. I could not find any mention of that graphics/video card in the forums. Anybody using that card -- or perhaps have other comments on the suitability of the G5 8300g as a dedicated Second Life system? Thanks!

Buy an x700, trust me.

No one is using it unless they have gotten a new computer because
it is only available for PCI Express motherboards which are
quite new. Supposedly an AGP version is coming soon. When it
does I'll be getting it.

I had never heard of an x700 -- so I did a search and found the "ATI Radeon X700 XT". My search up to now was focused on nVidia, since I read about longstanding problems with ATI cards. Have most of those problems been fixed? Or those problems do not happen with the x700?

I have an X800 pro, which is based off the same arcitechure as the X700, and I am getting LESS problems with SL then when I used my GeForce 4.

So, no problems with ATI cards :)

No, the ATI problems have not been fixed.

From what I'm told, it's more of an ATI+SomethingElse+SL problem, or perhaps a manufacturer problem, but I wouldn't EVER want to run the risk.

Perhaps ATI+AMD+AA+AF :D?

The ATI problems are fixed on my side, x800 pro and not a single graphical error. EVER

Congratulations. Small consolation to the group of ATI users we had through here in the past two weeks.

Thanks for the info -- I think I got the point. Try before I buy, whatever the combo is. Thanks again.
