System specs OS: Vista Home Premium Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.00GHz RAM: 1022 MB System Type: 32-bit Video card: Radeon X1550 Ok...I've been banging head for the past day and a half. The other day I suffered a particularly nasty SL crash straight to the desktop. Since that time whenever I attempt to start SL, it's gets to the detect hardware in loading and then I get the send crash report window. I have been able to log in again since, but only if I do a reinstall of SL. But if I crash or log out, I'm not able to log in again until I do that reinstall. I've been using Vista for almost a year with SL, with absolutely no problems. In my efforts to correct the problems I've done a complete uninstall of SL, and my vid card drivers...and also made sure my Vista updates were done as well. Nothing is helping to resolve this issue of having to reinstall SL just to log in. I am not having any other problems with other software, and I do run a multitude of 3d applications on my system. It's just very frustrating at this point Anyone have any insight on this. And while I can appreciate many don't like Vista, I'd like to explore more than "install XP" because that's not going to happen as it's not an option. Any tips would be very seriously appreciated Thanks All

Crash on Login
01-10-2008 15:33
Ok after a bit more testing I got the recurrent crash logger to finally let me log in. Here is what I did. I had resently tried the OnRez viewer and it could log on without that crash logger coming up everytime and stopping me. So I copied all the files from it into the Secondlife folder and of course it worked fine....Until I renamed the OnRez viewer SeecondLife. Ah hah! So my computer will crash when it sees Secondlife is about to run and be ok when OnRez runs even if it is the exact same program? Ok seems so. I then got a clean instal of SecondLife and renamed the EXE to SecondLife_BAK and clicked it. Guess what?... it works. Ok so somewhere in windows secondLife has a file that told the crash loggerr that it was crashed and it never cleared that out. I think the crash logger then may be suspect. Also I think this all started because I used my own graphics settings instead of letting the application decide. So it crashed then kept that state and never would change it even when I reinstalled. So changing the name of SL was all that was needed to get around that. The problem is that when SL crashes again is the new name then going to be flagged as a crash everytime it is run? We think it is a registry problem and some have reported success after using a program called CCleaner to clean the registry. Whatever it is renaming is probably a workaround.
Anyways my machine is a p4 duo,Vista Home,Nvidia 7900 GS ...updates and such for windows and nVdia card had zero effect and this problem has been reported on Linux as well as XP and Mac. So you guys out in San Fran please look back and see what was changed in the crash logger recently.

Just to confirm this Because Caitlin was so gracious enough to contact inworld. This DID in fact work for me. I'm not entirely sure why this would just suddenly start acting up for the Vista users and out of the blue, but I am disturbed. Thank you again for your help Caitlin You're Awesome

Just thought this was also worth mentioning. It appears that another common factor between the users is that thisstarted happening at the same time for us. The day before yesterday...

I use CC cleaner regularly........maybe that's why I haven't had a problem like yours. Maybe Vista SP 1 will fix that problem. It's due out soon.

(Quote=Daivani Daviau) Just to let u know I am having the exact same problem with Vista. I have been off line for 2 days now. It happened the day after Linden did their big shut down for half a day. Have re-installed 3 times, with same results. I hope they can find the problem and fix it. Thanks Tinker Nitely From: Daivani Daviau Just to confirm this Because Caitlin was so gracious enough to contact inworld. This DID in fact work for me. If you are running a ATI Graphics card... try disabling "Catalyst AI" in the 3D options in Catalyst Control Center Advanced mode. It Helped me with my ATI HD2600 XT....
