Up until today I've been able to login to SL for lengthy session [3+ hours] with no problems. Today my SL viewer [latest version] crashes on login or crashes within a minute of logging in. I have not changed the hardware or software configuration of my computer within the last week. Computer spec:

3.4ghz P-4D [945]
Asus P5VDC-X mobo
2gB Nanya Ram
Western Digital 500gb HDD [16mb cache]
nvidia 8400GS w/512mb RAM
Marian Marc8 MIDI sound card
Soundmax on-board soundchip

This is really frustrating. I have 2 lower spec machines which can connect just fine. One of them is a dual-cpu P-3 HP Kayak and the other is a Dell GX280. Any suggestions?

-------> I cleared the cache after each crash and it didn't help. I'm about to reinstal the viewer but i'm not holding my breath.

TCP failure vs crash
04-22-2008 14:23
We also need to specify if it's an application crash or a non-recoverable communications stall.

I get the annoying problem where communications just stops and never recovers. I can still copy text out of the chat and any open script windows, but I can't save anything back to SL.

Once in a very rare blue moon I'll get a "TCP failure" from the web browser I use (firefox)

This makes me think that the new TCP layer in SL does not have any recovery ability. If the TCP pipe stalls or fails it's just as good as crashed.

The old UDP system was better and IF the TCP over UDP would have been changed to include a full TCP layer the result would have been better since it will be a while before everyone uses either Vista, Mac OSx, or linux with QOS(Qualitly of service) enabled.

Also had the same problem with crashing & rebooting every 5 to 25 mins or so earlier.

SL and the PC would just die on me using both the 1.19.1(4) viewer and the 1.20.2 (85278) viewers in Win XP.

Funnily enough, I didnt seem to have any probs with the equivalent linux viewers.

I crash regularly to the point of... I expect it. This is getting rediculous.

Me too. Once I get locked up I might as well reboot because it's inevitable.

Thank god it's not just me

Okay, hate to say this, but thank God it's not just me. I was advised to turn off my firewall. I have been doing that and now I can go about 15 minutes before it crashes.

These crashes have something to do with the NVIDIA card you have, several people (including me) have this exact same problem with the new RC viewers. Unfortunately the new RC 1.20.3 (that was released today to solve this problem) didn't help either, it crashed when I tried to edit appearance, 1 minute after login.

We'll have to wait.

I can't get inworld at all on the new update. It gets to Loading World and I crash everytime. This is so ridiculous. I'm going to have to go download a different viewer now. Is there an older workling version I can download? Back when SL was working better?

I posted on another thread about not getting on, I don't even have an Nvidia card. and I am having the same problem. It gets to loading region or loading world. Then it crashes.....

I have been able to get on once or twice last nite. Told my friends the end may be near for my pc....

Im craigslisting for a new tower. Found a couple for 250 bucks......

Im not putting anymore money into Second Life, I've only put about 30 bucks into the game. but i can't trust them anymore.
