I posted a thread earlier about a dj'ing in SL, but what I really want to learn, is how to actually mix and make my own music. Any dj's out there that can suggest a dj/online mixer for a beginner. Thanks

I'm not a DJ, but if you have any questions on music production, ask away!

What I mean though, is how do you actually make the music itself, which software program would be good for a beginner?

I personally use a program called fruityloops. Simplistic in design, yet when you learn how to use it well you can get professional results. Fruityloops is known as a "sequencer". You will also want to get your hands on some VSI's (Virtual Synthed Instruments if i remember correctly) as well as various samples (such as your percussion, vocals etc).
what kind of music are you making then fella?

what kind of music are you making then fella? I haven't made anything yet, Ive just started djing this week actually, but I can't imagine just playing other peoples stuff. I want to make and play my own. I've been listening to a lot of different styles, and haven't really picked on one just yet. I will deffinately check out fruityloops. I like the name of it, it's funny. Anymore info. of course is greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

haha, no worries fella! The best advice I can give you is to just experiment and try different things! If someone else teaches you, you tend to almost "copy" there production style and not find your own style. If you really do hit a wall though, feel free to ask me; either here or in SL

Adobe Audition

I reccomend getting your hands on Adobe Audition. That is what we use here at Thunder Struck Productions and what we use at Clear Channel Radio. It has been rumored that there is a free copy of Cool Edit 2.1 out there to be had. Do a search for it. Cool Edit is a lesser grade of Audition before Adobe bought it out.
Other than that Fruity Loops is good and Sony Acid would be a great help with putting it all together in loops and they give you a free library of loops with the software only around $70 US

I recommend Ableton Live
02-19-2006 11:19
Hey, If you are doing both DJing and making music, I recommend Ableton Live. This program automatically sync the tempos to the track you are trying to make. When you mixing dance trax and such, That would be very convenient. You can use your own mp3 files as well as other music files.
