Offering Space for Educational Events

I have not had a lot of time to be running classes on my own, as much as I'd like to. The few classes I've run have been very rewarding, and I'd like to support education in SL as much as possible. To that end, the Athenians would like to offer space in Athena for hosting educational events. We have a nice meeting area that can be reconfigured via scripted commands, a lot of room to work in, and can work with you for any special needs for your class. I'm always tinkering with the event area scripting, so I can add features to support classes pretty easily.

I'd also suggest that others who have event space to offer for classes add a comment to this thread. As part of the group, I think I can say that Touchstone would be willing to maintain a list of classroom spaces for people who would like to run educational events. If nothing else, I can assemble the names into a notecard and make that available.

If you want to host a class in Athena, either one-shot or recurring, just IM me and we'll set it up.

That is very kind of you to offer, glad we are discussing the issue of education rather than the action of those who prticipate in these forum. As you know, the land where a class is held receives dwell, as such the land owners are benefiting no matter how little it is. I undersand LL offers land to hold classes that don't receive dwell, so maybe that's where people can hold educational events so no one gains a single L from the class, since that seems to be taboo in some circles. If they want to use privately held land for educational event's near a tp I am more than happy to offer my land to any and all who want it for that purpose.

I have a club that can be used for education. I don't see a problem in the dwell, If I host an educational event then im not recieving my usuall paying customers in my casino and what not. So a little dwell shouldn't be looked down on.

Thanks Olmy for the thread. As you well know, I am on the beat for educational activities in SL, too. I have a 20x20 area that contains my tutorials in inventory and texture application and modification tutorials (more to come) on my Dreams land across from Touchstone and next to the Touchstone store. I consider this an extension of Touchstone. I don't know what Jase Byrne, the leader of TS (he says Janitor) has set up for non-TS members to use the TS land, but I would be glad to open my class area up to outside presenters also. It is on a PG sim. If anyone is interested, IM The Sojourner. No use having it sit there.

re Dwell: I dont know what the deal is about dwell. It is spoken about a lot. However, since I rarely see more than a couple of dollars as a result of it, I don't see receiving it or giving it as an issue. Mostly I look for a place that is user friendly for the event. And, personally, the configuration of the seating in most Linden sponsored event areas are difficult to work with for an av that just isnt all that good at sitting without kicking others in the head, landing on top of them, or ending up on the marquee. Anyone who knows me, knows what i am talking about.
