Hi all,
apologies if this has already been discussed elsewhere. I am hoping to run some classes shortly, but am getting concerned about all the violence that has been directed towards events and people lately. Does anyone know of protection devises that can be obtained? And where would I get these?
Many thanks.

Or even where I could hire a body guard and security?

If it is on your own land, you have the freeze and eject/ban options. If that doesn't work, call a Linden while the griefing is happening.
There are also some outfits that can offer protection to a degree. You might IM Cinda Valentino in-world. You might also do a search using the find function and keywords "security" or "protection".

/echo what David said.
While its imperfect, contacting a Linden the *second* a griefing breaks out is probably your best strategy, until we get better land tools.
If you're not the landowner where you wish to hold classes, still follow the advice above - but talk to the landowner about implementing a **low-impact** security script in order to delegate the ejection capabilities to you.
There is an open-source security script in the Script Library forum, that I use to delegate security permissions.
Hope this helps!

Many thanks. Hi Zina. Something that occurred to me today is to host the event on land you own and change the land settings so that SLers can only enter the land if they pay the entrance fee. This would discourage a number of casual griefers but not the rich ones (who will pay you to take their grief) Then optionally refund the entrance fee to all event guests at the end of the event. This idea has obvious advantages and disadvantages - which I won't bother to list here As for protection in general, I don't think there really is any. I host the event as normal and if there is grief just ignore it and keep on going with the event. If it gets really bad, call a Linden (find some first for your calling card list) and/or submit an Abuse Report. -- Neal Stewart

This idea has obvious advantages and disadvantages - which I won't bother to list here The problem with this idea -- which I would love to use -- is that the entrance fees *no longer exist as an option on the land menu"* in 1.6 Maybe with good reason, because they never worked. They had several sorts of bugs. On some sims, you would type in "$50" but it would keep taking $10, the default. On others, it would simply give a player flying up to that parcel that had been put on tickets admissions a message saying "can't enter, not on list" but they never got a message saying "right-click and pay $50" so they didn't and flew away. I wish this worked, and they had put it in 1.6 but they took it out because it doesn't work. As an alternative, you can make a group, and put the group on admissions. Then each admissions fee distributes out to all members of the group. That's a bit annoying if you are trying to collect actual admission or fees, but for just an event, maybe it's just a nice bonus. I've tried doing this, but it is hard. People fly up, you tell them to join the group, they can't figure it out, they fly away. People just seem to have a hard time grasping that they should go in FIND GROUPS, press "join" and then pay the fee. I'm thinking movie theaters could try this to have admission. "Freeze" and "Ban" in my experience just can't be grabbed and used fast enough to stop griefers.

Hi Random. Thanks for the comment. I wasn't aware of this. I imagine that it might be possible to make a script that could provide the same function. One that would detects avatars within a certain range and present them with a dialog box. If they do not wish to pay, it would eject them from the land. Perhaps it could be coded with even more features and efficiency than the original solution provided by LL. May be a good proposal for the scripts forum. -- Neal Stewart
