Would it be possible to have a little piece of ground somewhere nice (and maybe even popular) to erect a short term memorial to the late DJ John Peel?

The man touched many lives, my own included, and the 13th of this month is the one year anniversary of his final radio broadcast. He died on October 25. There are many live music events planned for the 13th.

Nothing too big or spectactular, just a little granite slab and a photo or two.

I'd be happy to build it, I think it would be a really nice thing.

I'm afraid I don't think there's much I could contribute to such an event/memorial, being so new, but I'd happily lend my attendance.

One suggestion - Presumably BBC radio will be playing some related show that could be streamed?

Hi Alansson, that's a good idea, I'm not sure how SL stands on copyright problems.

It's been almost a year already? Wow. The likes of John Peel championed so much diverse—and eclectic!—music. I liked many of the Peel sessions featuring artists like Orbital and the Aphex Twin.

The man was a true champion of music, agreed, and responsible in no small part for my coming to the conclusion that good music is good music, regardless of genre (except maybe country... </jk>

I too have no idea about copyright issues - my streaming suggestion came to mind as I've heard snatches of both internet radio stations and commercial UK radio stations being streamed during my travels so far.

Well, I should be online for a few hours this evening (probably 9 - midnight ish, UK time), so anybody who wants to raise a virtual glass in memory of the man can drop me an IM.
