Hi,
I've been doing Machinima for years and I've recently discovered SL (I'm currently emabarrassingly dressed up as Don Qvixote for my next piece... err, so understandably want to finish shooting ASAP!) Anyway I need volunteers and also gestures and stuff so if you seem me around (it's easy to spot me -short pants, loose shirt and a sword)... feel free to approach me and share things with me, ideas, etc. I'm sure we're about to build a great community that mixes Machinima and SL... By the way -I'm based in the UK and, yes, have had pieces exhibited around as well as collaborated with numerous festivals promoting Machinima... Enjoy.

Hi there and welcome Since you are deep into the machinima thing and I am just starting, is there a good capture program available for free? I am using Frapps now but it is the trial version and rather limited. I then use Virtualdub to compress the video into something managable. Since I can't get the movie maker that comes with SL to work, I need something external. Also, what would be considered the "universal codec" ? DivX seems to do a really good job but how many can see it? Xvid is another good one but it is rather obscure. Any advice would be helpful.

From: Brutt Grasshopper Hi, (I'm currently emabarrassingly dressed up as Don Qvixote for my next piece... err, so understandably want to finish shooting ASAP!) There is one person on the forums that would be perfect to play Don Quixote. The rest of us will be wind-mills! Good luck on your project!

Hi all

Hey, it's great to see there's people interested in this already. This SL community is great.
Pandastrong -I'm well into Salsa too (in real life)!
Ok, to the aspiring and promising Machinimator -why can't your 'movie-maker' inside SL work? Can you connect your computer to a DV deck? You need always to get the original footage with the best possible quality and then think about compressing, etc. If your file is too big (more than 50Mb) think about doing episodes. Check Machinima.com for standards. Some prefer to use .avi files. I personally like MPEG4 because is pretty much compatible in any format (Mac, PC, Quicktime, Windows players, etc).
Good luck -let me know how it goes.
BTW -how can I set up a group inside SL that organises Machinima events?!
