I had a whole bunch of stuff in my inventory that needed getting rid of. Designer clothing and furniture, good stuff, bought on whims, impulses, trying to fit into a different mold and discovered I wasn't comfortable there... that sort of thing.

So I had a yard sale. I posted about it twice. Once on Friday and once on Saturday (but the grid went down for the Sat affair so it really doesn't count). I had the 'event' at 9am SLT for 2 hours. I was there the entire time. I dj'd the event and took requests and put out a dance machine. Everything I sold, as advertised, was a designer original. There were, as advertised, no freebies -- not for sale and not for give away. Nothing for sale was made by me.

People came ALL DAY LONG. From one posting. I couldn't box stuff up fast enough. At several points people were buying stuff off my back.

So I think this little experiment proves that if you want to do this, and it is a real yard sale, people will come and you do not need to junk up the events calendar by posting the same thing 5 times per day.

In this vein, I would like to propose a new 'section' or time period for events that is searchable: All Day Long events/week long events/ongoing events. That sort of thing. Thats the constructive suggestion.

The destructive one -- oh yes, you didn't think I would make it through an entire post without being snarky did you? -- is that this kind of proves that spam needs to be agressively attacked. Using yard sales as a way to sell your own original stuff, to drum up business for your business, to get people to come to your 24 hour a day, unhosted second hand shop is bad, wrong and should also be aggressively attacked.

Hi Vivianne, I read it!

I'm not currently tasked with anything Events-related, oh, like, so many other things to do.

But I take your comment to heart, I really do!

Still wish we had combat camping chairs...

I'm highly interested in having some sort of 'calendar' system as well as the upcoming events listing. That way, we could see events lasting longer than 3 hours, and also post reoccuring events only once.

I like the 'all day long section' suggestion - organised like that, if I search through current events and don't find anything interesting, I'd be able to look at the 'all day' section and see each of those events just once. So much better than it is now.

If people, like Vivianne did, post their day-long event just once as the system is now, chances are I won't spot it. I generally just check the times I'm going to be able to make - why bother with the others? So if someone posts and all-day event at a time that's sensible for them, but outside my timezone, I just won't see it.

Hmmmm, can this idea be passed along to some fine soul who is tasked with events-related stuff? This is a grand idea and it would lovely if it could be implemented!
