This is not a flame:
If you are using L$ to attract patrons and failing, perhaps it is the "scene" and not the L$. I suggest you look at other places where green dots cluster and see what they are doing that you aren't. Good luck. |

$L are cheap. $1000 L is $4 US.
The FREE MONEY thing used to draw ppl more easily, but competition has diminished the marginal value of free linden dollars. Consumers have become more educated about the club/hangout market. Meaning, you have to have something else to draw ppl away from the other places they like to go. _____________________

I ignore most raffle events. I'd rather go to an interesting or fun event with interesting people, regardless of whether I could win big Lindens or not. For example, I'd rather go to a show and tell where I could win $250 or so and not win, but get to see what others are building or to get inspiration or meet people.
If the free money is the sole reason for going to an event, there are a few things going against you. First, you're not guaranteed to win. So your chances of walking out with $1000 are pretty slim. Even if it was everyone who shows up and spends an hour gets $1000, then you're essentially working at a job for $3.80 an hour (or whatever the going GOM rate is). I've got better things to do with my time. I don't mean to sound all snooty, but I just want to have fun on my own terms. _____________________

Yeah actually I tend to avoid events that involve any sort of money unless it's a class and you have to pay for it. I'm not interested in hanging out with people who just want to win money. It's more fun and more rewarding to create stuff and have people buy it.

HI its me the Ignorant
01-04-2005 07:06
I have done some research and observation on this. It is hard but I cant stay ignorant forever! I have been to almost every club that hosts events reguarlarly and been on and off of these clubs groups from these . I also Throw Events at Mario's Club. Throws a mental slap towards Mario for not telling me of this thread! Some things are just not true in the replies.
One: People still go to clubs and money still attracts them. Two: About the person saying I will come for freeland : This is happening more now at some popular clubs. I think its funny! Its pretty smart too for dwell. I cant wait to see the roommate situation get out of hand! Clusters of ten on each square foot. Three (heheheh i just like pretending this post is of organized thought so I am counting) Yes lindens are cheap if you make more than i do. lol I couldn't never afford to pay 40 people 1k a wk or more in lindens to hit all my events so I fdont open a club. People are buying attendance! Not that I am judging. Some people are not skilled and so it is a good way for them to earn money. Can't judge people for wanting lindens but to say lindens dont lure people to clubs is crap. I do agree that club goers do have a tendency to burn out but to say its dying out is not true. Another thing happening is the Club owner and staff are hitting their groups with Ims of events costant. This is totally allowed of course and again can not judge here. They get everyone they can in their group and shout out contests and how much linden handing out every single hour and offering tp's. What can you do. I thnk some big popular clubs simply have it down - Pay pay pay and event event event and keep keep keep. It isnt going to be easy for a new club to get going. Appreciate your patrons and keep it to what you can maintain. One thing I can tell you is these busy clubs carry alot of drama also. They eject members constantly atleast as frequently as they throw events but they can afford to. My Suggestion : Make a prison: And all the rejects bounced from Edge and all the other "Here have all my money and land (cause i so care about you *rolls eyes)" clubs be arrested and thrown in a D Block or whatever. Keep them there until you get your dwell bonus and then offer them release w/ stipend or they can stay longer to receive an even bigger. LOL with starting stipend. Make it co ed and non coed to make all happy. Have Entertainment hours for them so they dont get too wild. Host some Break out events and take overs. I love men in uniform hehehehe. There is always some fun in sarcasm that makes you think "COOL" lol Contests are fun to those who think they are fun. Just because you got over it does not mean they are dying out. I really wish people would see this point. It really does at times sound like people are saying " You so stupid itf you still go to contests and/or clubs |

One: People still go to clubs and money still attracts them. ... Can't judge people for wanting lindens but to say lindens dont lure people to clubs is crap. I do agree that club goers do have a tendency to burn out but to say its dying out is not true. Yeah, I think it is necessary, but not sufficient. There's just tons of clubs offering money now, so to get ahead of them, you need something else, more value added. That's all. Clubs will always be around in some form or another, and I think that's ok. In fact, I think because of this competition the general quality will improve. You'll always have a couple of Edge-type places where they can just offer more and more, but there will also be more Gravity and/or Transylvania type places that work towards a niche market, and/or offer something special. The market is segmenting and maturing for clubs. Good observations Ahkin. _____________________

Here's a clue
01-10-2005 14:09
SL is something that we all do for ENTERTAINMENT. Everything that gets done in SL, gets done because someone enjoys doing it. People build, script, make clothes, run classes or whatever because they enjoy it.
This also holds true of clubbing. If you run a fun club with great music and lively conversation then people will be there regardless of the $$. The $$ is only added benefit. Only those absolutely desperate will hang out someplace lame just to rack up some Lindens. I completely agree with Alicia, the trend is toward niche markets (just as in RL). Create a scene that appeals to people who like certain kinds of music and let them make it their home. If you are going to do a goth club, then go all out and start working on attracting that market. Figure out WHO you want at your club and play the music that they like, encourage a fun and consistant group to attend regularly. You could be raffling off L$10,000 and I wouldn't hang out in your club if it was playing hip hop or rap, but plenty of others would. So, find a niche market and cater to it. There are actually few people money-hungry enough to hang someplace that isn't their scene, as you have found out. Music and good conversation are what most club dwellers are looking for in SL. |
