"LIVE MUSIC" Event Category and Groups utilizing group IM instead of notices

I'd love a little feedback on two issues.

1. Do you think LIVE MUSIC should be solely for LIVE Musicians and that DJs should have their own category? Yes/No?

2. How do you feel about groups utilizing group IM instead of, or in addition to, using the NOTICE feature? [Notices can be turned on and off by the member; group IM can not] A resident should not have to go busy OR remove the group to keep from being bombarded with Group IMs.

Since I already anticipate someone saying "Well why join the group if you're going to turn off notices?" LOL. Easy. Sometimes one is in the mood to attend events and can turn on the notifications. Other times, when you're not looking to go anyplace, you can turn it off. [IMs keep coming at you]

I'm merely trying to gauge others feelings out there. Thanks :)

DJs and Live Musicians are already separated in the event listings - and it should stay that way. I know Live Mix DJs argue that they are creating the music at the event and should be considered Live Music. On that I agree. But for the regular 'spin' DJs - they should just be listed under 'entertainment'.

The group tools need a complete overhaul anyway (Since LL claims to be a social networking platform - they need to start providing those sort of services).
There needs to be spam rules in any group. I would rather a IM than a blue drop down box - personal preference. If the group is an open enrollment clearinghouse group for all venue owners there is no way to control the spam - be it notices or IMs.

It would be nice to have a tab where all the event announcements are stored and can be accessed when needed. Just have a color indicator on the tab to indicate new events have been posted without spamming the members.

Thanks for the feedback. If the two categories are separated, then why do I see DJ events under Live Music? How does one justify using the "LIVE music" category to spin pre-recorded tunes? Every DJ "mixes" live...that doesn't make it live music.

Perhaps DJs should be given their own category: "DJ"? Listing them in "entertainment" is somewhat of an insult to DJs because then THEIR stuff gets lost in the other "entertainment" things like yard sales, hookers, "big sale today!"and other crap that nobody moderates.

You're right. Events need a major overhaul as do groups. Group "past notices" when one goes to look aren't even in chronological order.

DJs that use sounds to create their own music are not just mixing pre-recorded music. They are creating music. DJs that sample pre-recorded music are mixing.

The Second Life Birthday and the Burning Man resident volunteers have formed a DJ Group that seems pretty well setup. This group would probably be the best ones to make a case for this. Since they have Linden Lab's ear. Contact the SLDJ Leader JewelKicker Spearmann and bend her ear on it.

Just click the DATE heading twice and they move into order.
