Hi I am new on SL and I am wondering how to I get an area where I can host a live meeting where members can come in and listen to my lecture. Also does it have to be live or can it be recorded so I can invite members and they can come in anytime they want and listen. I would appreciate any help as I am so new to this site. Thank you

Hello there

Hello Demetrios
If you go to the Event Discussion Forum you ll see a thread named "How to post an event" (it's second in the list I think). If you read it you will find step-by-step instructions on how to post an event (that another guy has written)...Hope I helped...

That's a bit like going to the UN and asking, "Where in the world should I hold my business meeting?"
It seems as though a person so new he doesn't know how to hold a meeting is not going to have anything useful to say about running a business in Second Life.

How do you know it's an SL business? He could well be interested entirely in using SL to connect people together from different sites for RL business. Demetrios, to answer your question: your best bet will probably be to rent or buy some land. If you only need to do the one presentation and that's all, it will be best to rent, or you may even find someone with a suitable area you can use for free. If you want your event to be announced publically, and you rent from another user, you will need to ask them to list the event for you (only the actual owner of land can list events on it). However, if it's a serious business meeting you may be better advised not to announce it publically but just to IM the people you want to meet there and invite them using the Offer Teleport control. This is because there are, unfortunately, some people who will fly into your meeting just to cause trouble. If you want to use voice, you will need to check that all the users visiting can access it (some users, such as Linux users, cannot; and many more prefer not to use it). Your presentation does not need to be pre-recorded, although it can be if you prefre.

From: Yumi Murakami How do you know it's an SL business? I don't, but the OP is certainly free to correct any misconceptions.

Well it sounds like you just really need an info kiosk. The events are the place to advertise a meeting. However you will get to compete with a few hundred strippers and quick money scams, yard sales, and night clubs.
And I have to ask as well. If you are so new that you don't know about the events board, how can you offer advice on how to make money. I happen to work in advertising and marketing, in real life. And I thought, well this should be an easy way to make the switch into Second life, what I joined 2+ years ago.
Realistically SL doesn't follow the rules of real life. The economy isn't the same, those rules just don't apply. Ask some of the Fortune 500's that pulled out because of this. Companies like Calvin Klien, Coke, IBM, American Apparrel, the list goes on and on.
If a multi billion dollar company didn't make the cut, how exactally are you going to make that happen. Just have to ask.
