What would be really cool would be a meteor shower event.

You could hold it in Rausch, which is generally pretty quiet...

You'd need a prim in the sky that could randomly rez huge meteor objects, which could crash to earth in random parts of the sim, and then we could play 'dodge the meteor' :D

Wow! that'd be cool!
set the sim to damage and evading the rocks would be even more fun!

Yep, I may add some particle effects to the huge rocks, so a flaming meteor could be coming in fast at your head :) Move, move, move!

Sounds great! Let me know when this happens!

IM Andrew when your rocks get borked and cause 42,000 returns to inventory.

What is 'borked'?

I don't think there will be any returns to inventory. A sim can hold 65,536 prims, and usually nobody is using Rausch. It's also a designated sandbox sim, so I don't think anyone will care less if I and others want to go and have some fun out there.

Just give me an IM.

I was thinking a few objects above cloud level that rotate and rez a meteor that rez a meteor pieces when they collide. Maybe just one object that moves around droping meteors. What you think?

Also, I know most SL lingo. but bork? Never heard of that. Would that be when an object is returned because it goes out of a sim on the edge of the world?

I think your idea of several items that rotate and rez meteors would be kind of cool :) I think we should have a day when we meet to discuss ideas and most of all, have some fun trying out some meteor showers. That'd be cool :)

I'll have to rig up a 'technical difficulties' screen for my domains, then flip into XP and have a day in SL :)

ooh, can't wait. I have to say this.

Maybe do some shooting stars with particle effects.

And maybe a sort of vehicle that can be flown around at high heights to aim at people :D

And it would be better if we could get people not to fly very much, though we would have no way to make them.

I searched, but it looks like the old thread is gone. Remember prehistoric SL? It was a festival headed up by Lynn Lippman covering 4 of the vehicle sims. She asked me to make her a volcano that 'spit' rocks every 10 min or so. These would come 1000's at a time and auto die shortly after.

Well, long story short, the 'controller' was deleted so the 'spitters' got locked into the on position. To combat the everlast flow of rocks, auto-return was bumped up to 1 min. This cause them all to go back into my inventory. I think I had somewhere near 42,000 'orphaned' objects in my inventory at that point. This cause me not to be able to log that account in at all until they were cleared. It was a fun f-bomb filled night for sure. Once that I wouldn't like to do again. To make it even more fun, I had IM to email enabled. Ever have to download 42,000 emails? More fun the a barrel of sheep.

Anyway, that's borked. :)

I probably wouldn't have that trouble :)

My idea is more about cool, huge special effects meteors, rather than thousands of small rocks...

Well if the meteors just plunge into the ground then auto-delete later (say a timer), you probably won't have a problem. If they bounce beyond a sim boundary into the void, then you get returns, too many bad bounces could be a problem.

Would be ultra cool if they made craters, no idea how to do that on Linden land though, even on owned land it could be tough to script.

Yeah I'd love to script a huge pile of earth being carved up from the ground as a meteor slams into the ground and carves up a huge crater :)

You could have them rez a crater when they hit that is not physical.

From the online Urban Dictionary:

2. bork: Exclamation commonly used by muppet swedes.

3. bork: To ruin a chance at; to botch, to fail, to mess up.

4. bork: Verb (intransitive)
a) from the German BORKE meaning "caught between a rock and a hard place";
b) to have one's character assasinated;
c) to be put in a false light.

5. bork: Although confused to be a mixture of beef and pork sometimes; a word that means everything. Usually used as an exclamintation.

6. bork: bork is the name given to a fart released underwater in the bath tub. the name comes from the sound made.

I have the perfect flame and smoke particle effects if you're interested.
