I hope so... I had a great time last year, even though I missed the burn.

Is this going to happen this year?

As of right now from emails sent and returned. There hasent been much public planning announced. Right now most of the community involvement is in the Relay for life & SLCC. All very close to Burning Life. I'm sure they will be announcing it just at the last minute. RL burning man starts right after SLCC. So allot of the lindens in the community management will have todo a mad dash if they would like to have it done exactly while burning man is going.

Hit me up in world for more discussion And what I'm trying to do to simplify this.

For reference's sake, it wasn't announced on the blog till August 15th last year by Jeska (with the participant lottery list in this forum closing only a few days after that) and land was made available on the 24th.

RL Burning Man 2007 is running August 27th to Sept 3rd. All these dates mean an announcement could come anywhere between Monday the 13th and the 20th if they want to give us any time to plan and build.

Vicero, do you have information about the extent to which LL is interested in participating? Is this something they will be organizing and providing sims for, or will this need to be an entirely resident-run event? Are they going to provide the sims (12 sims last year)?

I really like this year's Burning Man theme, by the way:

2007 Art Theme: The Green Man
The Art Theme for Burning Man 2007 is "The Green Man". Our theme concerns humanity's relationship to nature. Do we, as conscious beings, exist outside of nature's sway, or does its force impel us and inform the central root of who and what we are?

As of right now this event is going to be 100% resident run (People Of Contact Havent Heard Anything In Linden Labs). With the exception of sim sponsorships. I'm talking with someone about getting 25 sims for the event because of the large expansion of new residents/people of interest. I have a 100% resident maintained group called .:Burning Life:. or it can be typed burning life. This group is a organizational method containing chairman of different areas like the DPW "Department of Public Works". This group currently has 70+ people of interest.

I'm still doing emails to different people within Linden Labs to get everything sorted out because I would like to see this event 100% resident maintained and created with the help of Linden Labs for sims. There currently is a island dedicated for this event called Blackrock. That is mostly for meeting and pre-builds. And in a worst case it will be used to have the burn if we run into a issue of getting the sims.

This year I got in contact with someone going to Burning Man and I will be working out a deal to where next year we could have a webcam at Burning Man so we can have people at Burning Life communicate with people at Burning Man. The contact is also our Burning Man representative.

My goal this year is to get the land distribution on a first come first serve basis with terminals communicating with a database so that people can only get one. And then have a dedicated group for going around to maintain parcels and if they don't build within specification's of Burning Life. (Example: A chair with no entry on the land.) That would terminate there registration and then be avalible to the next person who "WOULD" build on it. And then there are other things like street names that would be developed.

Last thing, I'm attempting to make "Burning Life" a real life Non-Profit. I would like to see this event managed in a realistic way so we can do allot more things like a winter art fest or other types of festivals all year.

I applaud Vicero's determination to put together something this year. I only hope that with a little more input from the residential community the failures from last year will be put behind us.

If you see a Linden standing around ask them where Burning Life is this year !!!

I will attempt to keep any new info available on BurningLife.com as I become aware of it.

Lets hope it's a GO !!!

P.S. Vicero is also building his own website at BurningLife.org, please check that out as it develops.

I read the blog announcement and it's about as clear as mud.

Large builds are expected to submit proposals?

How does one propose to build when they don't know the theme or prim allocation? So much for spontaneous creativity (although I have ideas) *sigh*

First come first serve on 62 plots? Wow, so in other words... those who work, away for the day lose out?

Excuse my skepticism, but 62 plots will get eaten up by everyone and their alts in an hour.

Small art plots at 50 prims?

Who is doing the selection of plots? I read on the blog, that spaces are reserved for those involved with RL Burning Man. Again, pardon me, but that sounds pre-determined.

Derby style and favortism is not a very good way to offer land for the expo.

In all fairness, it should be lottery style like it was in the past.

Weedy I dont think you are understand things very well. The Small art installations are not plots but they are art on the playa. Land being reserved for people from the RL burning man in not true. Yes we are going to have A plot "1" reserved to show what the RL BM was like because we will be having this event AFTER Burning Man so we can post photos. And we understand that the plots will get eaten up quickly but there is purpose for everything we do. We like a full event rather then a empty event. And for alts we will do our best to dedect if someone is using a alt for more land. This year NO plots will be empty. And weedy if you would like to make a special request for something on your plot witch i wont reserve for fairness you can email request@burninglife.org like everyone else :)

So.... if I spend day and night online waiting to race to a plot which I may or may not get, I can suck up for special attention, which may or may not be accepted?

*sigh*

I guess there's always next year.

I'm with Weedy on this one. Those of us needing to be asleep when those plots are opened for grabbing are going to get screwed out of thier chance. Not everyone is in the smae time zone, you know.

Then there's the subjecting one's self to some unknown sense of asthetic for a larger plot. Very corporate that, restricting resources based on the tastes of those in power. Doesn't feel terribly "Burning Man" at all.

I'm terribly dissapointed.

The lottery draw was the best for this, a completely random and unbiassed distribution of resources.

Agreed, the lottery was much fairer than 'first come, first served,' in terms of time zones and people's schedules. I was disappointed to see that LL apparently isn't involved at all this year, apart from providing the land. And I can understand that submitting a proposal lessens the chances of having junk or griefer builds, but it doesn't really seem to be in the same spirit as the original event; it loses that sense of unrestrained creativity and freedom. It sounds like it's meant to be more of a structured art exhibit than a tribal event.

Don't Worry everyone will have a chance to get a plot. Me and my chairman are working out ways to make avalible plots to every time zone :)

And yes we are aiming to be like burning man but we are sl we can do things organized :-D I'm sure every one wouldent like to see a chair on a plot right? Thus that is why we placed the registration for large theme camps. All the others you just click :-D More details at the wiki. burninglife.org/wiki :)

I am worried. So far all I see is glib expressions of nebulous future possibilities.

In what way is a land rush as fair as a random drawing?

And as the whole point behind the burning life event is (well, WAS) expression, how does prejudged asthetics advance that?

I tried to visit the Burning Life land yesterday. It can be found in search and shows on the map when you zoom. But when I tried to TP there it kept doing the slow blue timer line thing and I froze in my original loaction and had to log out. I tried to get there from several locations and the same thing happenned.

I know that Burning Life isn't actually going on right now but I didn't get a message saying I wasn't allowed to go there, just the freeze-up TP bug.

I remember the same thing happened months ago when I tried to visit the site soon after BL 2006.

I'm just mentioning this problem because I want to be able to get there when Burning Life is on (I have joined the group). I also want to know if the TP problem is due to the site being closed off at present or because of a bug.

Thanks!

Thanks. I thought it was probably closed but I didn't get a closed notice when I tried to TP, just the crash!!!!

Also I'm thinking of wearing only body paint at BL - like people do at Burning Man. I'm wondering if this would be OK seeing as part of the BL site is PG.
