quoted from Chrischun Fassbinder Events Promoting Movie Copyright Violation, Just Go Un-Noticed?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today I noticed a very interesting event was being held...

"Come to Elite Islad Cinema for a showing of "The Postman" starring Kevin Costner! Show will start at 8:00 PM Sharp! You MUST have Quictime Player installed & working to view the movie. I will not be providing support for those who have config problems."

It's still on the event listing, so I guess it happened. My reason for posting isn't to tattle but suggest events such as this get removed before many others get the idea that it's allowed and even supported (events) to bring the warez movie scene to SL.

Found a new word on the internet?

I have several programs that can take my owned movies and put them into any format
I would like to view them in.
Watching a movie with my online friends in my own place for no viewing fee is how we do things in America.

The word, spelled warze not warez that spelling gets newbie’s to porn sites thinking they are going to find software.

As I see it you just called Pat Playfair a Hacking software Pirate With NO proof. If you want to bring your new found word and what you seem to think is Real Life Violation into Our Game Calling someone a software thief is a real SL TOS issue and corrective action should be taken against you for it.

I was just about to post about that myself, then I saw this thread. Chrischun Fassbinder seems to think it is against the rules, or something. Which, as far as I know, it is not. It is like inviting people over to your house to watch a movie. And, by the way, Microsoft's official parent's guide to 1337 5p34k (a hilarious read) spelled it warez. :)

The word when I was downloading warez using a 2400 baud modem was spelled warez so I guess both methods are acceptable. And when movies started to be traded we called them "moviez". hehehe...

I'm not sure I understand the rest of your post at all... Viewing in SL is in fact a private viewing.

* edit: I get it now, Chrischun shows reefer madness and other old movies and it's all about competition over dwell... Interesting. The Postman is awsome. TOM PETTY RULES!! WHOOO!

I know Im blonde and a bit slow, but I dont get it. I like watching a good movie cuddled up to you on the couch. I dont mind when you lean over and lick my ear during the movie, but I hate it when people are talking. And I know if Kevin Costner was on the screen, honey I would be swatting away that tongue slobber. :D

I could careless about getting dwell, though I figured someone would accuse me of this soon enough. I don't see clubs covering basics costs with dwell and they only have land tier to pay.

Alright so here I'll paste my reply from another spawned off post from the original...

I made the post in the Linden Hotline section because I don't want to see the new video features become synonymous with pirated movies. I'd much rather see SL's video features known for helping independent film makers and animators get some in-game publicity. If the attitude becomes shared that video is only useful for putting on private land and inviting a few friends over to watch a private showing, it's not a very ground break use of the system.

It's proven people enjoy watching illegal movies for free, what's the challenge of proving that in 3D?

It was far from a personal attack, though I'm sorry if I gave you the impression I was making one against someone you obviously are willing to stand up for, I commend you. As for me violating TOS by asking a question about a public event, that is laughable.

By the way, I like how you are able to make an issue about preferred spelling of a slang piracy terms, very mature. It is warez by the way.

I'm done replying to any posts about this. It's just bringing out people looking for a fight.

This has to be one of the most incoherent threads I've ever read. That is including the thread where everyone's sentences dropped dead before they were complete.

Leaving aside the personality conflicts that seem to come up in these threads, have any of the rest of you been paying attention to the news lately?

Studios sue internet film pirates
Court mulls file-sharing future
BBC News Q&A: Movie downloading

You may personally feel that showing a movie in SL is just like showing it in your living room. I'm not saying I agree or disagree. But I'd be willing to bet the MPAA doesn't agree, and they're pretty lawsuit-happy right now. If you post it in the events calendar, it's going to be pretty hard for LL to deny that they knew copyrighted material was being distributed through their servers. If the MPAA feels like it this week, they'll sue you. They'll subpoena LL to reveal your personal identity and drag you into court, and even if you successfully defend, let me tell you from personal experience, being sued is not fun. And the jury (or in this case, the judges) are still out on whether LL can be held liable for letting you do it, especially if you're advertising it in a way the Lindens can't have reasonably missed, so there's a chance you'll take LL -- and SL -- down with you. (Especially given the image of the drive-in on their Community page right now, without so much as a token hint that they expect their users to respect copyright laws.)

I'm just suggesting folks who want to have a few friends over to watch a movie together in SL keep a low profile, at least until the US Supreme Court rules on whether LL can be held responsible for what its users do with copyrighted material.

Either that, or actually negotiate with some distributor to open up a legal movie theatre in SL -- now there's an interesting business opportunity... and one that could save LL's hash, if the MPAA does decide to sue them for supporting/enabling copyright infringement.

Isn't watching "The Postman" starring Kevin Costner sufficient punishment in itself? :p
