So have you ever watched the Amazing Race on TV? I would like to do something like that in SL. It would involve people going across various sims to do certain tasks and whoever gets to the finish line first would win some Lindens; I don't know how much yet, it's all in development. It would only be one leg; I don't have the time for a sustained and linear game.

My thought was that it would work like this. Everyone gets a notecard at the starting point directing them somewhere. If the next point is just a clue pickup, they click on the cluebox to get the next clue. The box would be scripted to send me an IM when they clicked it so I can keep track that a person has done everything in the right order and isn't cheating.

If the location is a task, there would be an observer (or two) monitoring the task. When someone completes the task the observer would give him/her the next notecard and then send me an IM telling me who just completed the task.

I foresee this taking a lot of manpower for observers and a lot of people allowing use of their facilities. The biggest problem is space accomodation, since I think there would be a decent number of people doing this at once. What I need are people willing to observe, people who have facilities for these kinds of tasks, and any other ideas you may have. One thing I thought of for a task was a giant maze in a no-fly zone, or taking someone on in a battle mace arena, or something like that.

What would be REALLY cool is if I or someone could make video of this and screen it later, but without sound dubbing it would be kinda boring, I think. Not to mention all the time involved in video editing.

If you have any task/location ideas, I'd like you to IM me instead of post here because I want to keep it "secret" from potential contestants. But if you have questions, programming ideas, think this is a waste of time, etc, feel free to post it here as long as it wouldn't be information a potential contestant would use. I don't see this event happening for a few months at least because I'm going to be taking a hiatus of sorts for a few months starting in September. I'll be on every now and then, just not religiously.

Thanks, and I look forward to hearing some ideas from everyone.

Nep.

I love the idea and would be willing to work with you on it...
I believe making it more in the vein of a timed event daily would be good.
IE On Monday between 7-9pm you have to go here and do this in say 1.5 hours.
Points would be rewarded for completion and time every day. Then start in that sim and move foward to the next set of tasks the same time each evening. Also making it limited to a certain muber of teams..and a set number of days would insure(based on the sucess of the first) that you would do many more not just a one time event. Also Im sure you could attract some advertisers if you post the results of every days scores in either the various news publications or on the soon to be SLTV.
Just my thoughts...if you like them let me know and we can begin the planning stages.
