Since it's inception, Second life, which began as a few empty simulators, has become a lavish world full of genuine opportunity, and one undeniably rich in creativity. Since the world has expanded to a size that we once only dreamed, it is easy for those who have had an impact on our Second Lives to remain unwittingly obscure. Individuals, creators, builders, scripers, entreprenuers, innovators, thousands of people, every day, consistantly improving the reality we thrive in, pushing the boundaries, devloping cutting edge ideas and bringing them to life for the rest of us to experience. Due to the sheer size of our world, it's easy to miss them.
This is not a popularity contest. It is not an individual attempt to declare any single entity as definitive or incite competition or contention among participants. This is an opportunity to acknowledge noteworthy efforts and give an appropriate thanks from the community at large. This is not an attempt to exalt any one above the other, but provide a general compendiuim for all creations or ventures in Second life. Because tastes are widely subjective, we categorically avoid using the term "Best" as that alone suggests something competetive. Instead we have opted for the term "Notable" which does not either exalt or diminish one nominee against another.
This is awards season, and I thought it would serve such a beautiful purpose for us to have our own while having fun and recognizing SL's bountiful talents. I hope I can look forward to the community's support in this effor. I am looking forward to all the amazing things I've missed.
The process leading up to the ceremony will be done in four phases, nominations, tabulations, voting and the Ceremony, each respectively described below.
THE NOMINATION PROCESS BEGINS: 2 | 1 | 06 Booths are open. Nominations are made by the entire community, all one needs is an active account to contribute. Any Avatar is permitted to, ONCE, make a nomination in one or all categories. This is done annonymously - HOWEVER - please note that in an effort to squelch the stuffing of ballots, a record is kept of multiple nominations made by the same avatar for the same nominee. While we cannot see who nominated who - please note: A record is kept of each booth visitor. This is done specifically for the ceremonial purposes when invitations are sent. Repetative nominations from the same source are prohibited as it is expressedly unfair to the community. The Nomination Process Ends 2/9/06
THE TABULATION PROCESS BEGINS: 2 | 15 | 06 All names/groups submitted for nomination are read and organized into their respective categories. The 5 nominees submitted with the MOST nominations by comparison to that of others in that specific category are then set aside and their names placed upon a virtual VOTING BOARD. The tabulation process ends.
THE VOTING PROCESS: 2 | 17 |06 The voting board reveals the names of the 5 most nominated individuals/entities. Each name will coorespond with an option to vote FOR that individual in their respective CATEGORY. The community at large are soley responsible for the outcome of the nominations and the results, the community is the deciding factor and nothing else. Participation is key. The Voting Process ends 2/28/06.
THE CEREMONY: 3 | 1 | 06 Every participant who visited the nomination booth or the voting board will recieve an an official invitation to the ceremony, and an opportunity to dress up in formal attire and flash your assets on the red carpet. Come to celebrate Second Life's limitless possibilites. Over the course of the evening filled with delightful entertainment, the winners will be revealed. Each winner will be alloted the chance to accept their award on stage in front of the peers that nominated and voted and give a speech regarding their noted efforts.
THERE ARE 10 NOMINATION CATGORIES *************************NOMINATION CATEGORIES*********************
1. ****Notable Build**** This award is to acknowledge the build in Second Life that one simply cannot pass over without having to take a second look. It is profound, detailed, the mark of extreme creativity and exempliry in archatectural design. The build need not be interactive, or of any particular scale. This to pay regard to any singular manifested object that does not fall into alignment with other categories.
2. ****Notable Avatar**** An award extended to any singular individual who has utilized external and internal resources (Including but not limited to primitives, textures and designs by other Second Life members, and their unique usage) to create and display an Avatar that exemplifies remarkable creativity.
3. ****Notable Designer**** This category is reserved for those in Second life who have contributed various fashions, accessories and poses to the community. This individual will have set the bar for fashion standard and made in impact on the way we express ourselves. This individual can be a clothing designer, jeweler, shoe designer, skin designer, hair designer or any of the creator of any of the countless displayable features which we attach or wear. Ultimately, this nominee provides a service we simply can't live without.
4. ****Notable Residence**** Many in Second Life reside in magnificent habitats, from towering castles, or elaborate mansions to village huts. No matter the effect, this award is to recognize the individual(s) who have designed and successfully erected a unique and fascinating homestead that would make the rich and famous envious of it's dwellers.
5. ****Notable Business**** For the Individual(s) who have made a powerful impact on the way we use commerce in Second Life and beyond. This business will have invented or implemented resources into the virtual reality medium that have uniquely affected our commercial structure or purchasing habits. This is designated for the entrepreneur that we, as consumers, find inspiring and an asset to the world, and who has influence our experience as a result.
6. ****Notable Scripted Creation/Inventor**** The men and women behind the curtain. Those genius individuals who have contributed more than anyone might realize to the way things in Second Life work. They are the inventors, the ones that make the world, as a whole, comletely interactive. This nominee has invented something that we have come to use everyday and has somehow made life in the Second a little more convenient, fun, exciting, enriching or immersive. This category is for both the script creator and the object they have invented that serves a unique purpose. 7. ****Innovation Award**** The innovation award is extended to the individual(s) who have proven a powerful asset to the world of Second Life. This individual may have spearheaded a movement, invented something of quality that has changed the meteverse or the way we interact with it, they may have started a business utilizing a unique strategy that has proven overwhelmingly successful, or developed an in-world idea that has changed the way of Second Life forever.
8. ****Notable Privately Owned Sim**** This award is to acknowledge any individual or group that has positively utilized the resources of an entire simulator to invite the community to share in and/or improve the overall Second Life experience. This Sim is magnificent in aesthetic, unsurpassed in quality, and achieves an atmosphere that keeps the community coming back.
9. ****Notable Group Achievement**** This award is specifically reserved for -GROUP- efforts that have made an impact on Second Life. Wether it be through a popular build, a collaboration of resources used to manifest or promote something enthusiastic, or an investment in the entertainment we all seek in Second Life- oftentimes a group effort can be one of the most impactful, while the most difficult to attain. Whatever the collective result, it will, as an entity all it's own, have become an asset to the World.
10. ****HUMANITARIAN AWARD**** This award is for any group or individual who has raised an awareness regarding any specific specific issue or who has been devoted to the promotion of human welfare and the advancement of social reforms or relief efforts. Many in Second Life have used their time and resources to call upon many in an effort bring the element of need to our consciousness. Even in Second Life, these nominees have proven that none are to small to make a difference.

/116/1.htmlHonestly, those who have made noteworthy contributions have been noted in the appropiate ways by the appropiate people. Also, if you want to do this, spend the moola and post a classified in the SL Classifieds tab. I think you can get a number one spot for 17K. Only a minor subset of SL reads the forums and so any results from this contest will only reflect what people (and their friends) in these forums think.

The security measures on this are very very weak. Ballot stuffing will be so terribly easy.

The voting booths are currently in Zoe at the coordinates above, they went live to the public at midnight February 1st (Today.) The Ceremony will be held in Zoe as well. Anna: Yes, I'm absolutely certain you're correct, but why should there not be another fun way to recognize the amazing things accomplished? I don't think there could ever be too man. This is just another fun excuse to have a good time and do something positive at the same time. The Award itself is being designed by a Real Life friend of Mine I have invited to join me in SL. She in based in the UK and is a Internationally renowned sculptor, so her agreeing to participate lent the effort the feel of little authenticity. We're having so much fun preparing this for everyone. Currently a few of us are designing the nominees luncheon event. Just great frivilous fun.

I'll submit some nominations as soon as I'm over the shock of there being no greenest av category. Are you collecting items or money to add to the awards?

Thank you so much for your kind words of support. Khamon, you've always been *so* behind me in even my most gregorious efforts, I adore your selflessness and unfailing thoughtfulness even when I shoot myself in the foot. I hope one day I have the opportunity to do the same for you (Well... not that I want you to shoot youself in the foot, dear.) This is just a venture I envisioned on my own, given I'm such an SL hermit anymore. Given I am an awards show fanatic, and the world is simply so large I know I'm missing out on so much, I thought it a fun Idea to simply intermingle the two entities, which will also allow a wonderful opportunity to dress up and socialize in a simulated awards show Fashion (Of which will also be covered, fashion that is, during the ceremony arrivals!) Anna, I appreciate you constructive comments. I am afraid I am not the savvy scripter many are so I had to essentially learn and create a system that I could work with despite not having the resources, skill wise, that many other do. I did my best, though. I feel one things remains for certain in Second Life. Our community is one of unsurpassed integrity. The nominations process is a little more involved than a click of a button, thus requiring some time and effort. It is my belief in this community, and the process, that squelches suspicions of cheating. I feel, for the most part, those who take the time to make a nomination are doing so out of passion of a person, creation, group, or accomplishment. In that, I don't think that someone is going to step out of their way to deliberately sway the results, specifically since recieveing the nomination offers no real world consequences, only the chance to be acknowledged amongst their peers, given that this is a community driven event. I'm happy to hear comments/questions or suggestions from anyone. Have a happy day! -PF

MVA stands for "Most Valuable Avatar?"
Those crystal things! God, they are GORGEOUS! What a fabulous idea! And only $99 for a small one? Those people must be making money hand over fist!

This thread really belongs in one of the Event forums due to the nature of the original post. However I do not want to put it into a forum that does not allow for discussion because this is obviously an event in the works. I'm going to move this thread to the Events Discussion forum so continued input can be given. And good luck with this event Phaylen! It sounds like a wonderful idea!

Thanks so much for directing me to the proper forum, Pendari!
Max, yes, absolutely! I've been working on some templates but if you already have a voting booth in operational order for the next phase of the process I would be most appreciative if youwould let me use them! Thank you!
Sorry about my PM issue, I hadn't looked there in awhile... seems I have messages dated back to March of 2003... woops.

This is so exciting! Things are turning out so much better than I hoped. So far, response to the nominations process has been fantastic and VERY diverse! I am grateful, as this is a chance to learn a lot more (for me anyhow) about the world beyond my little property line.
A few people are also campaigning for their nomination, and I am so happy to see people getting the community involved in such a lighthearted and fun way.
At the end of the day, Ballot Boxes are cleaned and nomination entries examined (To avoid counting duplicates) and so far we have 128 nominations across the board for various catagories.
This is also a fantastic way to support those who make your SL experience a valuable one! Make sure you submit their name.
Let me recap the catagories:
Innovation Award Humanitarian Award Notable Group Achievement Notable Avatar Notable Business Notable Designer Notable Build Notable Scripter/Object Notable Privately Owned Sim Notable Residence
On February 15th Nominees will recieve notification of their status as well as an invitation to a special get together.
This is a community driven effort, the community will determine the results, so please tell your friends to come visit us at Zoe (86, 74, 37) to have their voice heard!

I'm sorry I didn't update this sooner.
The nominations process has been closed. The voting process is opening. Those who recieve the top five niminations will be posted on a board for citizens to cast their final votes.
Notices are going out to all of the nominees tomorrow morning!
We recieved so many nominations, altogether almost hit the 500 mark. It was nice to see the community that did, come out and support each other.
Thanks !
