New club fad?

You guys have a new fad now where club people don't provide dance balls? Just the chimeras and either a very few dance balls or none at all or if they do have any, the balls are halfway down the floors.

Most clubs are pathetic. They are terribly taken cared of then you guys wonder why no one goes to your events.

I've been to many clubs lately where they announce Salsa events but when you get there, they're playing rock or some other music other then what they announced.

Or, they have a slow dance event for couples but they don't have any slow dance balls and if they do it's just one or two and they're in the floor. And viceversa when playing fast music, they only have slow dance balls out.

I can name so many clubs if I could and all you had to do was go there and you'll see what I'm saying but we can't name them.

Most of you club owners don't know a thing about running events or a club for that matter yet you take on that task. Deal with things you know something about and leave the clubs to the big boys who actually know what they're doing.

Excuse me but this is Second Life. If we want to run clubs in a way you don't like, tough!!! Is a bad small club where you can actually move any worse than a really smart big one that is lagged to a standstill?

There is a learning curve that most new club owners have to deal with. Also wanting to open a club and having the finances to do so are two different things. Since clubs come and go so often its best to spend some quality time going to garage sales and getting quality goods for afraction of the price. Also look on Slexchange in the resale area for some bargains. I keep three dance machines at my venue; one with those sexy dances for girls, one with just salsas and the touch-to-dance dancefloor that has 12 dances suitable for anyone. But in my pub I do not have a dancefloor, just a hardwood floor and single and couple danceballs. Its a better look for the pub.

Carlos,
You might consider becoming an entertainment critic and having a blog or contributing to SL magazines. I think the club market would benefit from honest critique. Bad clubs will not get repeat visitors and I suspect club owners may not have a clue why they are not getting any traffic. If someone is doing that already, I'd love to know about it. The fashion industry in SL has had lots of reviewers and it has been a benefit to both buyers and designers. You could list all the clubs you dislike; but do you have examples of ones you like? Can you tell why you think they are better than others?

Being a club owner is a serious financial commitment. The music stream, land tier (or island monthly fee), live artists/DJs, employee costs, prize monies, and assets (dance balls, contest boards, etc) take a lot of lindens. Tips rarely cover the costs of an evening if there is live music. Residents should give serious thought before opening a club.

A less blaming tone might be easier for your readers, but your points are excellent.

I just hope the internet royalty laws will not change in a way that closes all the clubs in SL. We've already seen the demise of gambling due to legislation.

BTW, as full disclosure I own URBANITY in Eros Cove. I don't think I fall into the problems you mentioned, but come visit and send me your honest critique. As a club owner, I'd like to know what I'm doing well and what might need fixing. We run events Wed - Sat starting at 7PM SLT.

New Club Fad?

I have to totally agree with Carlos, what is the point of going to a club when their event they are hosting doesn't even match the music they are playing or even the atmosphere.

I am in the process of opening a new club with a friend, I am the club manager, as I have hosted many club events for a variety of clubs and have seen it all first hand and it made me wonder in my mind.. what the hell?? But I went along with it.

With the opening of this new club in September I hope to eliminate all of that with this club and help my friend make a better club. I am planning on music to match the events and when things call for slow dances there will be more slow dance balls on the floor. What is the point of going to a club when they announce Salsa and you can't even do that.

I also hate when the clubs host the events that you can't even move it is so lagged. Granted it might be a SL problem, but if you are going host events and you want the traffic make sure your SIM can handle the traffic before hand or you are just going to lose the traffic.
