Because the FFRC strives to maintain transparency in all of its dealings (and because we unfortunately lost the Google Groups page to which we used to post our information) we are posting our chatlog, illuminating our decision making process, below. The FFRC is open to the public. Any SL resident can join, participate in or merely attend meetings. The next meeting will be the first Saturday of February at 1 pm SL time.
[13:05] You: I'm good with going ahead. How do you feel Jamys?
[13:05] Jamys Vuckovic: We have been pretty much the three "principals"... the rest has been a rotating group of additional votes.
[13:05] Jamys Vuckovic: I don't see anything wrong with going ahead.
[13:05] You: k let's start discussion then. In alphabetical order I suppose.
[13:05] You: Artisans cooperative is first.
[13:05] Troy McLuhan: Can you remind me how many we can award?
[13:06] You: unless there are any that people would like to eliminate on the basis that they don't meet requirements.
[13:06] You: we can award up to 3 awards of $20,000 lindens.
[13:06] You: we don't have to award all 3.
[13:06] Troy McLuhan: ok
[13:06] You: We may choose to award 0, 1, 2 or 3 grants of L$20,000 each.
[13:06] Troy McLuhan: Only one applicant asked for Orange Create land
[13:07] You: I am a little disappointed at Orange.
[13:07] You: The last person we recommended to them didn't ever get build perms.
[13:07] Troy McLuhan: Hmm
[13:07] Jamys Vuckovic: I was wondering about that.
[13:07] You: so I'm not certain that we can make that land grant award.
[13:07] You: I need to talk to Adri to find out what is going on there.
[13:07] Troy McLuhan: Well, the one group who asked for it just wants to use the land for avertising. I was going to recommend not giving it to them to do that anyway
[13:08] You: She may no longer be involved with them, though. ahhh yeah that was the other issue. lol
[13:08] You: I haven't yet disqualified applications for not following notecard naming directions but . . . I'm tempted to after the trouble I had finding all these in inventory.
[13:08] You: lol
[13:09] Jamys Vuckovic: Heh
[13:09] You: I liked getting them via email better.
[13:09] You: considerations for future calls for proposals (assuming we fundraise)
[13:09] Jamys Vuckovic: Well I would move we forgo the Orange grant based on what I'm hearing.
[13:09] You: anyway back kkto Artisans Cooperative. (yes and wait on the orange grant until Adri clarifies what's happening)
[13:10] You: I like this idea but I don't think they need us.
[13:10] Jamys Vuckovic: When I first read this I'm like "they're asking us to subsidize a store... but the further I get into it the more I like it.
[13:10] Troy McLuhan: I visited the purported location of their parcel earlier today
[13:10] You: If they form a coop they will draw strength from one another and will make money from their sales.
[13:10] You: yes?
[13:10] You: what did you see?
[13:11] Troy McLuhan: All I saw was some vehicles sitting around on some group-owned land
[13:11] You: also they primarily want money to pay teir.
[13:11] Jamys Vuckovic: So you're thinking it's a vapor project, perhaps, Troy?
[13:12] You: which has been a consideration for us before, given that there are many places to house events and content.
[13:12] Troy McLuhan: I'm thinking they already gave up the land since they wrote the proposal
[13:12] Troy McLuhan: Either that or they collect vehicles
[13:12] You: I'd be tempted to eliminate this proposal on the basis that the actual content is speculative at the extreme
[13:12] You: and that they are seeking money for Tier.
[13:13] Jamys Vuckovic: It does say in their app that they'd like to seek other locations... and yeah... money for Tier has always been kinda iffy.
[13:13] You: Talented builders can always take part in the Linden Galleria lotteries or can use slexchange / slboutique (whatever those are called now)
[13:13] Jamys Vuckovic: XstreetSL and OnRez
[13:13] Jamys Vuckovic knows cuz he gets email from them all the time now.
[13:13] You: that's my impulse with this is to pass on information about where they might showcase works.
[13:13] You: haha
[13:14] Jamys Vuckovic: too bad it's always the free stuff

[13:14] You: well that's a good sign, Jamys.

[13:14] You: any other discussion on Artisans?
[13:14] You: if not lets move on to burning bright.
[13:14] Troy McLuhan: They'd be better off setting up a store near other artistan stuff
[13:14] Jamys Vuckovic: I like the idea, but I hear the concerns about it and I'm inclined to move on to the other apps.
[13:14] You: I agree Troy. There are other artisans cooperatives aplenty.
[13:15] Troy McLuhan: ok
[13:15] You: They might do well to talk to filthy at artopolis for example.
[13:15] You: ok on to burning bright.
[13:16] Troy McLuhan: They seem highly credible and even gave a timeline!
[13:16] You: It is probably no surprise that I love this one.
[13:16] You: they have a well-written proposal with big, bold goals.
[13:16] Jamys Vuckovic: This is interesting. Very tightly focused (which I like)... I could see this being a display in the lines of the Van Gogh exhibit and stuff like that
[13:16] You: And I am very interested in the idea of walking through / into william Blake's art
[13:16] Persephone Phoenix nods
[13:17] You: I think this proposal is in my top 3 for sure.
[13:17] Jamys Vuckovic: It's educational and interactive.
[13:17] Jamys Vuckovic: and yes, the proposal is credible. They seem to know where they're going.
[13:17] You: any further discussion? Can we move on to Da Vinci Isle?
[13:18] Troy McLuhan: ok
[13:18] Jamys Vuckovic: This one goes in my top three, and yes lets move on
[13:18] You: ok. I will declare an affiliation with Da Vinci but I think it doesn't represent a conflict.
[13:18] You: Nonetheless I should say that I sometimes host events on their land
[13:18] You: every other wednesday.
[13:18] You: I collect no money from them though.
[13:19] You: I host events and read a lot of places in sl. lol
[13:19] Jamys Vuckovic nods.
[13:19] Jamys Vuckovic: No financial interest, though.
[13:19] You: but I figured I'd say that up front.
[13:19] Troy McLuhan: ok
[13:19] You: nope. No financial interest.
[13:19] Jamys Vuckovic: I've only been over there once, I think
[13:20] Jamys Vuckovic: Didn't take much of a look around.
[13:20] Troy McLuhan: They seem to have a lot going on
[13:20] You: What I like about their work is that, by bringing better known rl artists and writers in world, they are working to legitimize SL artists and writers.
[13:20] You: they are blending the two.
[13:20] Jamys Vuckovic nods.
[13:20] You: yeah there is almost always something going on.
[13:20] Jamys Vuckovic: Introducing the SL to the RL and vice versa
[13:20] You: they do have two paid staff persons
[13:21] You: Kalli and Karli
[13:21] You: lol
[13:21] You: I love how their names are similar.
[13:21] You: anyway.
[13:21] Jamys Vuckovic: The grant appears to be operating expenses, essentially?
[13:22] You: I know that the work produced on Da Vinci is of pretty high quality usually. They often have talented artists in their galleries and writers reading.
[13:22] Troy McLuhan: They did mention putting on some special events
[13:22] You: yeah
[13:22] Jamys Vuckovic nods
[13:22] You: they host several series including a reading series
[13:23] You: at a little bookstore
[13:23] Troy McLuhan: Cool
[13:23] You: music etc.
[13:23] Jamys Vuckovic: I like the RL outreach aspect particularly
[13:23] Troy McLuhan: Yeah, they should apply for that Linden Prize too (10,000 USD)
[13:23] You: Standing Stone Gallery has a wonderful exhibit up at the moment.
[13:23] You: Linden Prize?
[13:23] You: do you have a url for that, Troy?
[13:23] Jamys Vuckovic: Hadn't heard of that, but hopefully they've thought of it.
[13:23] Troy McLuhan: Yes one sec...
[13:24] Troy McLuhan: http://lindenlab.com/lindenprize
[13:24] You: super. That might be good to pass on to applicants too. ahh awesome.

[13:24] Troy McLuhan: It's only for the ones that have a strong connection to RL
[13:24] Jamys Vuckovic glances... Yeah, looks like they'd be a good fit for that.
[13:25] Troy McLuhan: Anyway, let's move on to the next one
[13:25] You: ok
[13:25] Jamys Vuckovic: I'm favorable to this one, shall we move on?
[13:25] Jamys Vuckovic: You guys are faster than me

[13:25] You: yeah this is in my top 3 too i think
[13:25] You: but i might be convinced otherwise.

[13:26] Jamys Vuckovic: which one of these is next?
[13:26] You: Coordinated School
[13:26] Troy McLuhan: Health
[13:27] Jamys Vuckovic nods.
[13:27] You: Coordinated School Health
[13:27] Jamys Vuckovic: I'm not really feeling this one
[13:27] Troy McLuhan: They have their heart in the right place, but using SL to achieve that end?
[13:28] Jamys Vuckovic: It's an admirable goal, but as a "rich content" project I'm not seeing it. The audience is fairly narrow for it, and I'm with Troy that I'm not sure SL is the best path to their goal.
[13:28] You: yeah this could be done on a website.
[13:28] You: it isn't clear how the content needs to happen in sl
[13:28] You: or how they will connect with their ideal audience.
[13:28] You: I do like the idea but not so much the proposal.
[13:28] Jamys Vuckovic: Or even what kind of exhibits they would have
[13:29] Troy McLuhan: It's the sort of thing I can see The Ad Council taking up, or a public health program
[13:29] Persephone Phoenix nods
[13:29] Jamys Vuckovic: If there were a little more of a detailed vision set forth here I might be talked into it, but I can't envision it as written.
[13:30] You: ok next proposal?
[13:30] Troy McLuhan: ok
[13:30] Jamys Vuckovic: maybe if we don't select this one we refer it back and ask them to get a little more in depth with it... Yes, next please.
[13:30] You: Opera Joven
[13:30] Troy McLuhan: I think they've applied before
[13:30] Jamys Vuckovic: Have we awarded this project before?
[13:30] You: Yes.
[13:30] Jamys Vuckovic: I know I've heard the name.
