Let's pretend like this event is really going to happening June and start planning so it's not all rushed and disorganized. There are 347 people still in the SL Birthday group - more than enough to get this party started. We are looking at a Mid-June launch date and it will be a two week celebration.

START PLANNING!

/me has to say that the no-rez/no-script deal everywhere at BL, and maybe SL5B before that, was a real drag...

Oh.

So, by all means, shut it down for everybody forever more.

SLB is more of a spectator sport. Why do you think rez and scripts should be turned on Meade?

The one person at SL4B who requested rez perms needed them to have a re-enactment of the old primtionary games she used to run back in SLY2.

No other exhibitor has requested them since.

Rezzing was a non-issue if you knew who your sim coordinator was. We will need a SL6B office acessible to exhibitors in-world so we have a central place to seek assistance. This will cut down on the group spamming also.

/me is always an all-prim critter.

For no-script, changing avatars usually means I have to TP away to get the AO started then TP back. Or if I just want to, for example, use my Loco Pocos big wheel instead of walking, I have to TP out and back, again. It's a drag.

For no-build, my first BL was a blast as 4-5 friends & I toured the whole area on a hot air balloon. Was pretty disapointed on the last BL that there didn't seem to be any way to do that again.

Anybody worth their weight in spam can code very annoying and graphic griefer stuff that will work on no-build/no-script land. Getting the gteam to sign on to treating these events with the same priority as welcome areas/help islands would do more to prevent grief than shutting down everybody's scripts and rez capabilities.

It was just a suggestion. If you're not as strict with this stuff in future events, I know I will enjoy them more.

edit: and I'm speaking as a tourist here - I haven't added anything (aside from (usually) my appreciation) to these events in the past.

I think the most immediate issue is getting Linden Lab to be as actively involved as soon as possible so as to avoid the issues that occurred last year with Linden Lab coming in only a few weeks before the launch of the event and overriding a year's worth of planning (yes, SL5B had been planned before SL4B had even finished).

If this doesn't occur, then you have the situation we're in now, with people refraining from taking time out of their schedules to help organise an event, only to have their contributions ignored, overridden or just messed up entirely.

OR, we can wait until LL gets it together, and go from there. Not wasting our time and effort for nothing.

Every SLB event since SL3B has been organised by a Resident.

SL4B almost didn't happen until I stepped in.

Waiting for LL to get their act together is a bad idea.

Unless it's to do something nobody wants.

/me runs away from the thread!!

Well then, if you really believe this then it's paramount to get LL involved as soon as possible. Which Lindens are running it this year?

All we need from Linden Lab at this point is the continent to hold the celebration on. Does M want to go down in history as the guy that canceled the biggest customer-based activity ever?

I think the island configuration should be 4 in the center as the welcome area and teleport stations to the exhibits. Someone last year gave many exhibitors a one-prim item that we named our exhibits and we added a few words for the description. This data was sent to a HUD that the tourists wore. It was a great tool l. It even reported to the exhibitors how many people visited their exhibits daily. We really need that device perfected now SCRIPTERS.

Then we can have a ring of islands around the 4 in the middle. Leave some water so the boat and water environment designers can be involved on a grand scale.

I've said several times that the only way to avoid the cultural fragmentation that occurred last year is to set the sims up in a non-contiguous grid so that they can be re-arranged a few days before the event launches.

That way, if there is more interest to exhibit in a particular area than was anticipated (which always happens), stuff doesn't get messed up (because new sims can "easily" be added to account for demand, because Linden Lab insist on allowing people to apply after deadlines have closed), leaving people clueless as how to find anything.
