Eurovision... it's almost upon us!

The Eurovision Song Contest will be held on Saturday 20 May. More information available on the website here. This thread is for discussing ideas for holding a Eurovision event in Second Life. Any events that result will be posted on the Special Attractions board and the Events list inworld. I've started a group inworld "Eurovision Fans" to continue the discussion.

I thought it might be fun to hold a Eurovision Party in Second Life this year. Here are some ideas I had, in order of difficulty to make happen:
  1. watching the show on tv or t'interweb and making sarky comments about the acts through IM, hence the inworld group :)
  2. getting together inworld to dance to the tunes.... and make sarky comments about the acts through IM
  3. having a scoring system inworld so we can do our own version of the jury voting - "The votes of the Second Life jury are...."
  4. streaming audio and/or video into Second Life so we can watch the whole thing in SL (and make sarky comments etc etc..)

If you are a)up for it or b) able to help organise any of this, please post below.

There is a link on the official website (link to website in first post) somewhere.... I remember finding it and thinking it looked a bit fiddly. You have to download some widget in order for it to work. I've had look around the site and can't find it now... the site is unbelievably badly laid out.

If I find it on a future search I'll post the link here.

I haven't been able to find info on how to watch Eurovision on the web :( Looks like it might not be possible. The BBC is doing a webcast, but only to UK-based computers. I guess there must be some international tv agreement at play here.

The show will be broadcast live on the web on BBC Radio 2 though, the url is http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/.

I don't know if this is accessible to people outside of the UK but perhaps someone could check it and report back? Audio is better than nothing I guess!

BTW - for any resmods reading. Please don't move this thread. We're discussing the technicalities of accessing the Eurovision Song Contest here so that we can hold a Eurovision Event in Second Life. So it is relevant, honest!

The above appears to be the radio url for the show, when it actually gets broadcast. I'm slightly dissapointed I can't also find a video feed, but we can't have everything I guess.

Unfortunatly the TV appears to be non-Quicktime. I know the BBC's normal video feed options aren't Quicktime either as that was the reason, so I believe, for the lack of video feed at the Radio 1 event. However the Radio feed will almost certainly work and generally won't have any location issues.

I'm giving 12 points to Willow, just because... oh, and the Finns get 10

... and to warda and siobahn for posting info on how to watch/listen online.

I had a blast and it looked like everyone else was having fun too.

How about those Finns eh?

Let's do it all again next year. (Now, how to set up a live stream and a voting system?)

:)

P.S. I added some photos to snapzilla, tagged 'eurovision'
