One way to fix it
04-27-2005 02:07
There is only one way to fix it ... make it possible for events to break even. You are free to come hang at the spa any time if there is no event. I have a truth or dare pit and bar area that are often populated even when there is no event. Or you can go to a sandbox and build something. One last thing: you can go to the link to vote on features (go to announcements, then Phillip Linden's Vote to Help Us Fix The Bugs post, then take the link in to the vote). One of the features that was suggested was reinstating events funding. If people could pay events hosts, maybe there would be more events that weren't gambling. Cheers and best of luck in your second life. If in game, you are welcome to say hi anytime. If you're bored late at night, stop by the spa. You might be happily surprised.

Actually, my event list *is* broken. I usually have to press TODAY in order for the whole day's list to become visible. Could be you having the same problem...

Events do not have to make money or anything Just host something and have fun. just post it well in advance so people can see it in time.

Events and Money
05-31-2005 18:37
It is true that events don't have to make money. Neither does building have to make money, right? But sometimes someone builds something and it takes a long time, or a bit of practice, or maybe even some rl experience and talents. Then, I think it makes sense if I offer some kind of reward when I get that item added to my inventory. I could always barter (and sometimes do) but cash is much more flexible.

Making events and making community is something that I do for the fun of it primarily. When I do make money (and it isn't lots) it goes to pay down the costs of running the spa. In fact, everything I do, from escorting to building furniture pretty much goes to support the spa: to pay for event hosts (who build content in the form of events) to buy groovy new furniture I don't yet have the skills to make (though I did make a cool new event host throne for the beta bar that i'm kinda proud of) and sometimes even to offer as prize money. In a month, we tend to give away maybe only $500 in prize money (usually less) so we don't actually do that a lot. We can't afford to. Mostly people come to our events because they have fun at them. It does take a lot of work sometimes, though, to do it right. It takes time to schedule hosts, make a notecard to give out to our VIP lists, post the events to the calendar, shop for *setpieces* or other items needed for the event, and then to show up in advance to tp in people who want teleports. Sure, I do this for fun primarily, but why SHOULDN'T an events host who is good at it be worth a little money to people who have fun at the event?

Why shouldn't all well made content deserve our support and our recognition?

events list broken?
06-01-2005 05:41
also if you look at the bottom of the list .... you'll see a "NEXT" button. When the number of events becomes too long for the first page it is indeed "broken" into 2 pages.... click the next button to see the continued list and the "PREV" button to go back to the original list. This thru me for a loop the first time, but has become common place when the number of events gets to 200 or so.

WOW! Thank you Zarah! I never noticed this before. Of course, 9pm SL time is Midnight my time, so I'm usually already at an event or passed out.. haha.. But this is really great to know! I'll pass it on! :D

Heh, you must've showed Tang the grotto then, Waves? *giggles* Thanks for the praise for the Spa. We try to make it the best place we can, and have a great team. You gonna bring your new massage items over so we can test drive them, Waves?
