Probably most if not all of you utilize the SL groups to spam your event. In the "approved groups", when you have 2 or more hosts spamming the same group, what is the etiquette about not spamming over one another ? How much time do you allow another host ? One minute ? Two minutes ? Five minutes ? I'm new at this. Thanks !

Steve

I think the answer here is that it's bad etiquette to spam any group with an event. If it's your group and an event relevant to that group, then it's fine and it's not spam. That is the right place and time for an event announcement. But that also means there shouldn't be any event conflicts between hosts. Most groups are only throwing one event at a time.

If you are spamming a group that is NOT yours with your events, then there is no proper etiquette because it's already bad form. I would wager that most of us really don't do that.

In a strictly relevant group, or for a group event: twice, possibly three times at most, for example:

1. "Hi everyone, we're holding a widget expo on Friday" (sent on Wednesday)
2. "Hi, the widget expo is today at 5pm" (sent on Friday morning)
3. "Hi, the widget expo is starting in 30 mins, IM for a TP" (sent at 4.30pm Friday)

It shouldn't make any difference who says it - it doesn't make it any less annoying for people if there is more than one host. If someone else makes the announcement, no other hosts need to.

I remember back when we were still running the major multiplayer games there was alot of anger over spamming right after someone else for the same kind of event. Ar the time most were using 1 common group for a particular flavor of *.ingo. Hosts would get particularly nasty with each other stealing patrons and cutting down the small fry opperators. My advice get your own group avoid the mess.

I agree with Madison. If you need to make an announcement to a group that you did not found or you are not an officer of, I would personally contact the group founder or an officer to ask permission to announce the event. It just seems like the polite thing to do. :)
