Hello.

Firstly, I appologise if this is explained somewhere on the forum, but I find the Search option quite inadequate.

I understand that Dwell was removed, however, there are still places which offer money for Camping.

Is there some kind of a money grant for the most popular places? I cannot see why they would do it, otherwise.

Thank you for any insight

Dwell and traffic are both gone, they were different but similar (Though they *claimed* they would replace Dwell with something in time, thats not at all likely) Camping chairs remane because for popularity listings, when you do a search for something in-game it's ordered by visitor count.

Campers get your traffic up. Traffic gets you ranked higher in search. A Higher ranking in search leads to more people coming to your plot, area, sim, whatever. More people in your "zone" usually translates to more sales. More sales equal more moneys.

That's the only train of thought I can come up with to justify the continued existence of camping objects.

Joseph is spot on. That's exactly how it works.

The first thing *I* do...

is to scroll past the most popular places returned by search.

I'm the same way Lee. I tend to start at the bottom of the list and work my way up. But there are lots of people who equate popularity with quality, and to be perfectly honest they aren't always wrong. A lot of really popular shops are popular because they put out high quality merchandise.

I however, am a cheap bastard, and as such start at the bottom hoping to find what I'm looking for at like...70% off. :D

Plus you have more chance that the area will actually load within 10 minutes if you head somewhere less popular!

Traffic griefer's simple business model, as I've seen it:

[Sarcasm]
1.) Buy a cheap plot of land, 2048 - 4096 sqm.
2.) Open a club. It doesn't matter how it looks or what you have to offer. Build it at a height of 500 or 600 meters, so your poor neighbours will never know what lag monster hit them and bother the customer support instead of you.
3.) Place dance pads and camping chairs. Lots of them. You don't even need to offer money, have them hand out freebies. Add a scripted lottery system that dispenses better freebies from time to time.
4.) Hire a bunch of hookers and agree with them on a percentage of their earnings.
5.) Advertise the club. That's the only thing you really need starting capital for. Pay at least L$35000 for a classified ad, with a text like
"SexyExoticDancersEroticXXXEscortsHotGirlsWomenStrippersLesbianThreesomeShemalesSLingoNudeLapdanceJobsAdultFreebiesMoneyPrizesSploderSexgenBedXCitePoseballsEvents". That should cover all popular keywords.
6.) Wait a week and watch the traffic numbers grow. Use the time and travel from shop to shop, listing the names of a few hundred business owners.
7.) IM those business owners and ask them to have a look at your high-traffic club. Rent out shop space. Most business owners didn't realize yet that, with good advertising, one lag-free main store is totally sufficient; instead they'll want to open up tiny branch stores in every popular, badly-lagged mall or club. Instead of renting shops, you can also agree with them on a sales percentage. (As a shop owner, I get 3 of those offers each day).
8.) Once the money is rolling in, buy more land around yours. By now everyone in the sim will happily sell. Increase the size of the club. Rent out more shop space.
9.) Delete your classified ad. From now on the cheap "places" ad for L$30 a week will be sufficient, thanks to the high traffic ranking.
10.) Lean back and enjoy the smell of money. There's no need for you to work anymore.
