I routinely use Skype and TeamSpeak in conjunction with activities in SL. These sources work fine at the same time (on thr same machine) as SL. If I wanted to listen to my own audio files while in SL, I would not bother trying to run it through SL. I would just play it. I dont know if Itunes will run along with SL, but I believe I have done that with Win media player.

Ultimately, to do music streaming properly (so the Music buttons control it, and that it's properly streamed live rather than just loading static MP3s from the web), a Shoutcast/Icecast stream is required. Don't try to be cute with Teamspeak/Ventrillo - you still require use of a central server for those, and nobody's going to run an extra app to hear your audio when SL has perfectly good streaming built in.

Although it would very much limit your ability to market your services, you could require your clients to provide the stream server. If they're really worth their salt, they'll have their own stream server and be able to provide the connection details to you - but a heck of a lot of clubs just play some other net radio station, rather than having their own stream server.

Honestly, if you're serious about DJing as a revenue stream, you should get a stream of your own. Depending on the size of audience you need to deal with and the quality you're aiming for, streaming needn't be too expensive. 10 Listener-slots at 64kbit would cost £4.60(GBP) a month from my favourite host, StreamSolutions.co.uk. If you're in the USA, it would be more cost-effective to find a US based host simply due to an unfavourable exchange rate in your direction.

I rent 128kbps 100 listener streams at $3800L. That's like $13 a month... you can make that back in tips in 3-4 shows. Come on by Doubledown's DJ Shop if you're interested.

Yeah renting in world tends to be alot cheaper 128kbps/100 listeners runs about 3800 as DD put to 4000 you would need that to properly do it. (though i reccomend streaming at 96 kbps for stability...) Its also nicer renting in world as your dealing with another resident (can be bad in some ways sure but for the most part the 2 people i know of are trustworthy :)) You could use Virtual DJ and somewhat create a server recording off your computer but thats a very limited scope of how many people can listen to it... Thats about the only thing i know of that can do anything similar to this but it wont work with itunes..... Unless you strip off the drm stuff in all likely hood anyways :). You can try it out but again its limited as heck... Or if you have the bandwidth setup your own server :).
