Is an opening of a store an event?

Hi,
I'm getting ready to open my main store and i'm decorating it with party stuff, drinks and free gifts. I want this weekend to be my opening; there will be offers like buy one get one free that are only avaliable this weekend.

I'll be inviting friends and neighbours to come and party BUT...

How do I go about advertising something like this? I don't want to spam the events but i'm not sure how to go about getting the word out?
