I know there are event posting rules, but how are they policed?

Haney's event posting rules say:

"Examples of opportunities that are NOT OK to post as events:
- Visit my land for sale.
- Visit my new store, half price sale.
- Come see the vendor spots for rent.
- Visit my building."

And also:

"One person may post more than one event in a day in the same location if the events are completely different."

Yet today, we have six identical adverts for the same yard sale at the same location, which as an event doesn't conform to the rules, the first three posted by one person, the second three posted by another.

I see a lot of discussion about event posting changes, but if the changes are only voluntary or not policed in any way, does it matter? I'm confused.

The events rules have changed as of a couple weeks ago - The new rules have no requirment on having a unique event, and officially you are only allowed to have 3 events per parcel per person.

The 3 events per parcel/per person can be gamed, however - If you have enough land to subdivide off seperate 512m parcels, and assign them to different groups. Given enough land, one can have as many events as they like.

This is one of the side-effects of the new event posting rules - and unfortunately currently benefits large landowners while limiting smaller landowners. :(

Hope this helps!

As for policed, if you notice events that don't obey the rules, you can file an Abuse Report. After all, it's the Lindens who do the overseeing of that in SL. :)

BTW, I think Yard Sales are generally valid Events, as long as they're what they're advertised and not a looong trip to a singular creator's merchandise. I'm always disappointed in my search for bargains, only to find out where I end up is a generic club dance or something. :\
