Opening up "Events" for commercial events

I hope this forum is the right place for this thread ....
I'd like to discuss the concept of the Lindens allowing commercial events in the Events listing.
Lately there has been a bit of a discussion in other threads in other forums about the overabundance of "sexy av" or money-ball events and how poorly discussion or teaching events are attended. While getting attendance to discussions or teaching events is up to the hosts to figure out, there is another type of event that I'd love to see listed in events: commercial events.

A lot of us are involved in content-creation, whether its clothes, builds, scripts, animations, or a combination of these. After putting in long hours of development, it would be nice to have a product-debut event. Alternatively, if you have an established product line, and want to drum up sales, and hold a 50% off-all-items sale, that should be a worthy endeavor too. Right now, thanks to existing Linden policy, those events are not allowed in the Events section.

It seems to me that given the primary Linden concept of "letting us loose and see what we will do," coupled with SL having a free market, openly-traded currency, and strong entrepreneurialism, -- to not have a place to market new product within the game-space seems illogical.

While there is the forum for New Products, its not the same as throwing an event. Getting information out about new products has to do with getting a slice of the attention span of busy SL-ers, and everyone definitely checks Events on a regular basis. The forum is not the same, ... especially if your product announcement sinks to the back pages.

I'd like to know what the feeling of fellow SL-ers is on this subject... Do you want to see commercial events in Events? Surely after the millionth "sexy av" contest or other vapid event, it would be neat to go to a product debut by a top designer, builder or scripter. Or how about trade shows in SL, like an Auto Show, or a Weapons Show?

I'd also like to hear from a Linden... can you give the official reason on why commercial events are banned from Events? .... and... If there was user support for the concept of commercial events in Events, would the Lindens consider modifying or eliminating the ban?

I wish I could remember the precise chronology of the Lindens (a) banning commecial events and (b) automating the event announcement system. I wonder if they weeded out commercial events to pare down the hourly announcement...? Come to think of it, I believe that speculation has been floated more than once on the forums. I'm too lazy to look.

Anyway, I saw another recent suggestion (which, again, I'm too lazy to look up and link to at the moment) to break the events into multiple seach sets...games, dance contests, Sexiest Whatever...I think that might be a good idea, along with maybe one or more commercial categories.

cALL IT A CAR sHOW
or an Interactive Furniture show
Or Object Give Away Show

They do it for Fashion

I jsut would not ask for support on it.

Beverly Hills for example is a MALL that did a Fashion Show for a Grand OPening.
She has a post bragging how she had 300 show up in 3 hours. So It Happens
ALL THE TIME.

You cant get more Commercial than eventing a Fashion Show Grand OPening at a MALL SIM

I hear these complaints alot and i dont mean to be snippy. Its jsut look at the Calendar . Really LOOK At it! you will be suprised. And you willearn alot how to do what you think you can not.
