with all the new people to sl maybe a class on sl rules and maners would be useful, many people seem not to know how to report grifers or what one is, and the wondering into private homes and shouting all the time isnt nice either, i think a class showing people how to work the report abuse an dwhat abuse is would help,an one on general manners be nice also

Indeed....but then the problem that arises is attendence. Truely new players may not fully understand how the Search function works, or even think to seach for an ettiquete class. The idea in and of itself is a good one, but one would need to figure out how to get those who need the class to attend.

Why not just require all new players to spend at least an hour on Orientation Island, and make sure that, before they are given the landmark to teleport out, they have to pass a very simple scripted test that has dead-easy questions like : Can you fire guns at anyone you want, anywhere in SL? YES/NO
Don't hold them up too much - but do require them to know the absolute minimal basics that certain things are not OK.
They will never read the CS/ToS, frankly, nobody except LL reads the CS or ToS. Most people just install without ever reading the licence. Most people just skip any page that looks like it's covered in alien legal writing that they wouldn't understand even if they did bother to read it.
A simple, short, "under 60 seconds" test that people have to pass on the basic social rules of SL before they can go to the mainland would be most helpful.
Require people to know at least : * that it is not ok to just wander around shooting people willy-nilly * that most property in world is privately owned, and you have no right to be there - you must respect the wishes of the landowner * that you should be polite and respectful towards the people you meet
Requiring everyone to know those 3 things would be a great boon for SL.

I think it would be a good idea to have classes that pay for first-time attendance. That is, say, SL Customs or something would pay 100L to attendees who stay the entire class so that there is an incentive to learn things. An edujumicated populace benefits us all.

Except for all the alt's who'd show up, camp their avi, then go make an sandwich or watch Springer just for the 100L.

It would need a kind of participation - a teacher would need to be there or maybe there could be an online test. It's rather a sad state of affairs, isn't it, that there are people who would clog up and destroy legitimate education avenues to gain a bit of pocket change.
