The FFRC meets on the first Saturday of each month at 1pm PDT at its offices in Sami. Over the years, the organization has changed to create larger grants less often and to meet once per month instead of once per week to assure sustainability of resources. The FFRC is open to the public and all are welcome to join it and play a vital role in the organization while encouraging the creation of rich experiential content in SL. Contact Persephone Phoenix for more information. All donations may be made to FFRCAccounting Control.
The next meeting is planned for December 6th: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Sami/242/160/32
[13:00] Persephone Phoenix: this will be text
[13:00] Persephone Phoenix: so that it is easier to record for posterity.
[13:00] Persephone Phoenix: In fact it is now time to ask everyone to agree to be chatlogged for publication.

[13:00] Crystal Falcon: And faster, so we can all talk at once, LOL
[13:01] Persephone Phoenix: these are (yes. lol)
[13:01] Troy McLuhan: Aye to chatlog
[13:01] Crystal Falcon agrees to be chat logged
[13:01] Persephone Phoenix: these are saved for posterity or had been we need to talk about that too.

[13:01] Adric Zauber: yup
[13:01] Birdie Newcomb: OK
[13:01] Persephone Phoenix: ok
[13:01] Adric Zauber: first meeting, so I have no idea what I will say, but I'm down with become history
[13:01] Crystal Falcon: I just logged on, did you send a group IM for this too Perse?
[13:02] Crystal Falcon: Heehee Adric, we all started the same way!
[13:02] Persephone Phoenix: The agenda is simple. (Oh yes, I did Crystal but I should again.)
[13:02] Crystal Falcon can if you'd like to get started Perse?
[13:03] Crystal Falcon giggles nvm!
[13:03] Persephone Phoenix: hehe
[13:03] Persephone Phoenix: (drank coffee this morning)
[13:03] Crystal Falcon: LOL
[13:03] Crystal Falcon: Good, Ihave RL work to get to after this
[13:03] Crystal Falcon: We can go under an hour instead of over!

[13:04] Persephone Phoenix: ok so the agenda is super simple: 1) yay for us we did a great job in some ways last year. 2.) Do we go for another year? and 3) if so, in the same manner and with what people?
[13:04] Persephone Phoenix: I say we did a great job in some ways in that we raised a lot of funds and distributed a lot of funds to worthy projects.
[13:04] Crystal Falcon: Actually, wasn't last year one of our best ever?
[13:04] Crystal Falcon: Mmhmms
[13:04] Persephone Phoenix: Yeah
[13:04] Persephone Phoenix: it is true.
[13:04] Adric Zauber: how years have you been doing this?
[13:04] Crystal Falcon: We increased our grants even
[13:04] Troy McLuhan: Over 3 years
[13:05] Persephone Phoenix: but we still had challenges (yes we did! thanks in no small part to Ina Centaur)
[13:05] Adric Zauber: nice
[13:05] Persephone Phoenix: yes it's been awhile.
[13:05] Birdie Newcomb: where do the donations come from? Inworld?
[13:05] Persephone Phoenix: We've had the benefit of an excellent treasurer.
[13:05] Persephone Phoenix: Yes inworld fundraisers.
[13:05] Crystal Falcon: Mmhmms
[13:05] Birdie Newcomb: enefit events?
[13:05] Birdie Newcomb: benefit
[13:06] Persephone Phoenix: We are a bit low visibility (yes we did a major halloween party last year that raised tons of funds for the FFRC.
[13:06] Persephone Phoenix: it was also a date auction).
[13:06] Persephone Phoenix:

[13:06] FFRC Info owned by Persephone Phoenix gave you 'FFRC Info' ( http://slurl.com/secondlife/Sami/242/163/31 ).
[13:06] Birdie Newcomb: like ten cents a dance?
[13:06] Birdie Newcomb: 8=)
[13:06] Persephone Phoenix: haha. one hour dates. auctionee could stipulate doing what. lol
[13:06] Persephone Phoenix: My date and I went shopping for garden furniture I believe.
[13:06] Birdie Newcomb: that coudl be interesting
[13:06] Persephone Phoenix: hehe
[13:07] Crystal Falcon:

[13:07] Crystal Falcon: For you or for your date's garden?
[13:07] Persephone Phoenix: I think The theme was to do an arts date
[13:07] Crystal Falcon:

[13:07] Persephone Phoenix: or a culture date
[13:07] Persephone Phoenix: or rich content date
[13:07] Persephone Phoenix: Troy didn't you show someone around the space flight museum?
[13:07] Troy McLuhan: Yeah
[13:07] Persephone Phoenix: Anyway it went well overall.

[13:08] Persephone Phoenix: the thing is it takes a lot of energy to fundraise
[13:08] Crystal Falcon: Mmhmms, fortunately there were more people involved for that
[13:08] Persephone Phoenix: and I am going to school full time, working full time, and actively involved (as we all are here) in making rich content in sl.
[13:08] Persephone Phoenix: which brings us to the next year I think.
[13:09] Persephone Phoenix: Any more comments on yay for us part of the meeting? lol
[13:09] Troy McLuhan:

[13:09] Birdie Newcomb: sounds like a done deal.
[13:09] Crystal Falcon: One question Perse, were there any "non-yay" things from last year?
[13:09] Persephone Phoenix: yes.
[13:09] Crystal Falcon: Such as?
[13:09] Persephone Phoenix: One was that we didn't follow through on the Metaverse thing over the summer.
[13:09] Persephone Phoenix: we were going to do that and possibly a build competition here
[13:10] Crystal Falcon is happy to remember the good but wants to know where we could improve too
[13:10] Persephone Phoenix: but I had no time to organize anything.
[13:10] Persephone Phoenix: In fact that is my great problem re: the coming year.
[13:10] Crystal Falcon: And there's always less interest in SL over the summer too
[13:10] Persephone Phoenix: It is a problem for everyone probably.
[13:10] Birdie Newcomb: build a time machine? duplicate oneself?
[13:10] Persephone Phoenix: haha
[13:10] Crystal Falcon: Mmhmms
[13:10] Troy McLuhan: SL is changing
[13:10] Crystal Falcon: LOL Birdie
[13:10] Crystal Falcon: Yes Troy, growing
[13:11] Persephone Phoenix: The thing I am wondering is
[13:11] Troy McLuhan: Also becoming more mainstream, meaining that mainstream funders are starting to pour grants in here
[13:11] Crystal Falcon: Almost three times the size of two years ago when I joined, and 100,000 inworld is probably soon
[13:11] Persephone Phoenix: yes.
[13:11] Persephone Phoenix: exactly Troy.
[13:11] Crystal Falcon: Mmhmms
[13:11] Persephone Phoenix: It seems that granters are prepared to offer support directly.
[13:11] Crystal Falcon: We saw that too with Orange Island last year
[13:11] Birdie Newcomb: do you work mainly in the educational sector, or all of SL?
[13:11] Troy McLuhan: Arts, science, education
[13:12] Persephone Phoenix nods
[13:12] Persephone Phoenix: I think that the need for grants as we were able to give
[13:13] Persephone Phoenix: might not be as valuable in some respects as the thing we are sitting on/in
[13:13] Persephone Phoenix: and I am wondering
[13:13] Persephone Phoenix: if we might not transform the FFRC's role into one of simple landgranting?
[13:13] Birdie Newcomb: that's a basic need for newbies
[13:14] Persephone Phoenix: Perhaps to simply offer this plot to some worthy concern every 6 months?
[13:14] Crystal Falcon: Hmms, didn't most of last year's applicants have land already? They needed money for things like staff, uploads, advertising, etc?
[13:14] Persephone Phoenix: yeah
[13:14] Adric Zauber: We should offer more classes for newbies
[13:14] Persephone Phoenix: that's true.
[13:14] Crystal Falcon: Well there are organizations doing that Adric
[13:14] Troy McLuhan: Well, we always said not to apply for land
[13:14] Persephone Phoenix: well NCI does that
[13:15] Adric Zauber: The #1 problem is people getting on here and not being ready for the size
[13:15] Persephone Phoenix nods
[13:15] Crystal Falcon: Except we did have the Orange Island plot Troy
[13:15] Crystal Falcon: But even then most distinguished money over land
[13:15] Persephone Phoenix nods again
[13:15] Persephone Phoenix: lol
[13:15] Troy McLuhan: Yeah the Orange parcel was a special case
[13:15] Persephone Phoenix: Yes. People wanted money for projects.
[13:15] Birdie Newcomb: money is more flexible
[13:15] Crystal Falcon: Mmhmms
[13:16] Crystal Falcon: Here's a question Perse, have you been receiving inquiries?
[13:16] Persephone Phoenix: The question is how to connect with those larger interests?
[13:16] Persephone Phoenix: Not many.
[13:16] Persephone Phoenix: ToryLynn had some questions
[13:16] Persephone Phoenix: last meeting
[13:16] Crystal Falcon: Compared to last summer?
[13:16] Persephone Phoenix: Hm. Last summer there were more applications.
[13:17] Persephone Phoenix: I've had a couple of people ask when the next cycle was and I said fall.
[13:17] Birdie Newcomb: that's now
[13:17] Troy McLuhan: We don't have any outstanding request for applications at the moment - and Google somehow lost our Google Group (!)
[13:17] Crystal Falcon blinks
[13:17] Crystal Falcon: Really?
[13:17] Birdie Newcomb: uh oh
[13:17] Persephone Phoenix: yes.
[13:17] Crystal Falcon: Oh no
[13:17] Crystal Falcon:

[13:18] Adric Zauber: do you guys do booths at various events such as the burning life and stuff?
[13:18] Troy McLuhan: We used to
[13:18] Persephone Phoenix: We have but we didn't do burning life.
[13:18] Crystal Falcon: Depends Adric
[13:18] Persephone Phoenix: we did the slcc booths
[13:18] Adric Zauber: that could help
[13:18] Persephone Phoenix: and the dreamweaver one
[13:18] Adric Zauber: and t -shirt
[13:18] Crystal Falcon: I wouldn't want to do Burning Life as that would kind of take away from content!
[13:18] Persephone Phoenix: or dreams festival that is
[13:18] Adric Zauber: s
[13:18] Persephone Phoenix: yeah
[13:19] Persephone Phoenix: So this is it in terms of assets: this plot
[13:19] Persephone Phoenix: the orange plot
[13:19] Persephone Phoenix: and $67,006.
[13:19] Crystal Falcon: Well
[13:19] Crystal Falcon: I remember last year at this time
[13:19] Persephone Phoenix smiles
[13:19] Adric Zauber: oh, here's an idea
[13:19] Crystal Falcon: We voted to do a round of granting
[13:19] Crystal Falcon: With what we had in funds
[13:20] Persephone Phoenix nods
[13:20] Adric Zauber: let's buy a blimp!
[13:20] Crystal Falcon: And possibly stopping
[13:20] Crystal Falcon: After that
[13:20] Persephone Phoenix: yes.
[13:20] Crystal Falcon: But, we got more donations and things
[13:20] Adric Zauber: And hover over other people's events
[13:20] Crystal Falcon: And grew
[13:20] Persephone Phoenix: that's what I am asking again
[13:20] Crystal Falcon: ANd had our best year ever
[13:20] Crystal Falcon:

[13:20] Crystal Falcon: But
[13:20] Persephone Phoenix:

[13:20] Birdie Newcomb: blimp, intersting idea
[13:20] Adric Zauber: It could scroll a message
[13:20] Crystal Falcon: I can certainly appreciate your time limits
[13:21] Crystal Falcon: And I feel the same
[13:21] Birdie Newcomb: speaking of time,
[13:21] Adric Zauber: and people could click on it to get a note card
[13:21] Crystal Falcon: Sadly I was unable to contribute to many of lst years endeavors
[13:21] Birdie Newcomb: gotta go.
[13:21] Birdie Newcomb: Bye all.
[13:21] Crystal Falcon: Due to conflicts
[13:21] Crystal Falcon: tc Birdie
[13:21] Persephone Phoenix: bye Birdie
[13:21] Persephone Phoenix: sorry about that
[13:21] Crystal Falcon: What do you feel Troy?
[13:22] meeting box owned by the group 'Foundation for Rich Content' gave you 'FFRC Financials 10.04.08' ( http://slurl.com/secondlife/Sami/242/160/31 ).
[13:22] Troy McLuhan: I'm really not able to put any time into any new FFRC initiatives, nor do I feel the FFRC is as necessary as it once was
[13:23] Persephone Phoenix: It sounds like you and I are in the same place, Troy.
[13:23] Crystal Falcon: It does
[13:23] Persephone Phoenix: I am wondering if we might not do the final round of funding and that would include a permanent land grant of the FFRC plot?
[13:24] Adric Zauber: So, big blow out party to spend all the loot and call it quits?
[13:24] Persephone Phoenix: lol
[13:24] Crystal Falcon: I'm not sure I agree with the idea that the FFRC isn't as necessary
[13:24] Troy McLuhan: This plot doesn't really belong to the FFRC. It's being donated to the FFRC by various mainland landholders (maybe just one?)
[13:24] Crystal Falcon: Based upon all the interest and requests last year
[13:24] Persephone Phoenix: well the original outlay
[13:24] Persephone Phoenix: did belong to the ffrc.
[13:24] Persephone Phoenix: we bought the land
[13:25] Persephone Phoenix: from the cafe that used to be here
[13:25] Persephone Phoenix: at a very reasonable price at outset.
[13:25] Persephone Phoenix: the teir has been paid by various landholders.
[13:25] Adric Zauber: I have to boogie back to my booth. if you guys thingk of anything I can do, IM me. Still down with the blimp idea
[13:25] Persephone Phoenix: heh Ok Adric.
[13:25] Crystal Falcon: tc Adric
[13:26] Crystal Falcon giggles, well I guess that answers that too, if the people who showed an interest aren't...
[13:26] Crystal Falcon sighs
[13:26] Persephone Phoenix: we didn't have the google group to remind people
[13:26] Persephone Phoenix: unfortunately
[13:27] Persephone Phoenix: and I should have sent a reminder notice earlier than today probably.
[13:27] Troy McLuhan: On the group dialog window, Land and L$ tab, it says the Total Contribution is 3383 sq. m. and this parcel is 3376 sq. m.
[13:27] Persephone Phoenix nods
[13:27] Crystal Falcon: You sent a notice a week or two ago that it was pending
[13:27] Crystal Falcon: And actually, less notice gives a better indication of interest
[13:28] Persephone Phoenix nods
[13:28] Crystal Falcon: And the two who were here not staying seems to say more to me, as that generally hasn't happened before (unless our doom and gloom talk made them believe it wasn't worth it?)
[13:28] Persephone Phoenix: possibly
[13:29] Persephone Phoenix: maybe it was the meeting change.
[13:29] Persephone Phoenix: sorry about that, incidentally, but I had to do some pro-d for work.
[13:30] Crystal Falcon shrugs, that comes first
[13:30] Persephone Phoenix: so what do you think about the FFFRC doing the last round of 60,000
[13:30] Persephone Phoenix: or should we do a land auction first?
[13:30] Persephone Phoenix: to raise money for the ffrc and auction off this land?
[13:30] Persephone Phoenix: What do you think, Troy?
[13:31] Troy McLuhan: Right now the FFRC owns the land but the rent is paid by some donors, right?
[13:31] Persephone Phoenix: I think that Second Life has begun to make the transition to sponsorship for rich content
[13:31] Persephone Phoenix: essentially yes.
[13:31] Persephone Phoenix: so we'd turn over the land
[13:31] Persephone Phoenix: and someone new would pay the rent.
[13:31] Persephone Phoenix: It's mainland.
[13:31] Troy McLuhan: Right, just thinking it through
[13:32] Persephone Phoenix: it is an unfortunate time for the dollar or linden value of land though
[13:32] Crystal Falcon wonders if that sponsorship "fosters diversity and richness in content and events"
[13:32] Troy McLuhan: I don't think one auctions mainland, you just set it for sale at a particular price
[13:32] Persephone Phoenix: I'd rather give the land as it's own thing
[13:33] Troy McLuhan: If a group sells land, what happens to the money raised? Does it just go evenly to all group members?
[13:33] Crystal Falcon: I believe so Troy
[13:33] Troy McLuhan: I know that's what happens to group liabilities (like putting parcels in Search - Places)
[13:34] Crystal Falcon: I believe I've read that in the forums
[13:34] Persephone Phoenix is Offline
[13:34] Crystal Falcon: For people who sell who want to get the proceeds, they eject everyone first?
[13:34] Crystal Falcon: Eeeps, there goes Perse
[13:34] Troy McLuhan: Okay let's wait for her to relog
[13:34] Crystal Falcon: Mmhmms
(continued below)
