Hello all,

I've got an idea for an event. I think it would be awesome, but before I invest too much time and energy into getting it finalized.... I decided I'd go ahead and see if I couldn't get some feedback from the community. What do you think? Think this event would work in Second Life? Think I could get sponsors and participants? What do you think would be needed to make this event more of a success?

******* Preliminary Data for Clash of the Fashionistas ***********

www.clashofthefashionistas.com - in development

There is no doubt that the fashion community within Second Life is bustling. People from around the world can bring their graphical talents into play and design amazing fashion items.

As soon as I entered Second Life I knew that I was hooked by the fashion and fun of design. I am not much of a designer, though I do dabble in it. What I am is a business professional that loves Second Life and admires the skill and beauty created by SL designers.

I would like to propose the 2007 SL Clash of the Fashionistas!

Designers within SL can submit an application for consideration. 50 entrants will be selected by the judges. 20 Finalists will be selected and over a ten week period finalists will compete by meeting design benchmarks. At this point the following information is flexible and may be subject to change depending upon input from judges and sponsors.

How will a designer enter?

- 60 days old
- Entry fee of $500L
- Send in application and two designs for consideration
- Selection as a finalist requires your participation for the full ten week period

What will the designers win?

The winning designer will win a one page spread in a magazine, length of advertisement to be determined.

Winning designer will win $10,000L (possibility to increase depending on sponsor involvement)

Most importantly, the winning designer will win the title of Queen (or King) of SL Fashionistas. Not to mention the amazing press this will have on their designs.

(Other goodies added as sponsors provide input)

Who are the judges?

Five judges will be selected.

Tentative Timeline
July 1st – preliminary information sent to sponsors/judges for review and consideration
July 15th – press announcing the event / launch of website
July 15th – Entry opens
July 22nd – Entry closes

July 31st – Judges select top 50

Top 50 are presented to residents

Residents can provide input and are encouraged to mark their favorites

Judges will review the top 50 and from those top 50 select the 20 finalists.

Party to kick off event with prizes, goodie bags, 20 finalists are announced: August 17th, 2007

August 20th competition begins. Weeks begin on Monday when designers are given the details of their assignment. Styles are due by Friday morning. Friday night is an event where designers (and/or models) unveil that week's design. Friday night voting stands are placed next to each designer's board. Voting ends midday on Sunday. Sunday night bottom two designers are eliminated from the competition.

Designers are notified of their next assignment Monday mornings.

Sounds like a good promo opportunity for designers. If your relying on sponsorship funds you need to give yourself some more lead time and start the event in September or October. Use this time to develop the website, set up the event space, get your team on the same page and secure sponsorship funds.

Sounds like a great idea, though I'm not 60 days old (yet)....

I think I will have to pass on the first round, but I will be ready for the 2nd... Need to practice techniques and so-on first... and I haven't even gotten around to prim items.

Are the designs supposed to be different each week? Or are you stuck with one (or two) of the originally submitted designs?
