The EVENTS calendar - categories COMMERCIAL and MISCELLANEOUS in particular -- appear to have been overrun with fake yard sales today -- [edited] are all REPEAT SPAMMERS who have now crapped in the COMMERICAL category. In MISCELLANEOUS, [edited] are the main offenders, with multiple listings. [edited] listing actually reads" ONGOING SALE - LANDMARK AND VISIT OFTEN". [edited] BS bogus listing reads "WILL RUN ALL DAY". The [edited] has its usual fake "yard sale"/coffee announcement, which as usual mentions "please visit our retail vendors" -- an obvious commercial ad if I've ever seen one. WHEN ARE YOU MORONS GOING TO LEARN???? THE EVENTS CALENDER IS NOT FOR COMMERICAL ADS, AND YOUR FAKE 'YARD SALES' AND BOGUS 'EVENTS' ARE CRAP. AND WHEN ARE YOU LINDENS GOING TO GET OFF YOUR BUTTS AND DO SOMETHING OTHER THAN SUSPEND SOME OF THESE JERKS FOR A FEW DAYS? THEY WON'T LEARN UNLESS YOU HIT THEM WITH A BASEBALL BAT!!!!

From: Merlyn Bailly THE EVENTS CALENDER IS NOT FOR COMMERICAL ADS Okay, what is supposed to go under the "commercial" category, then, if not commercials? I just wish the filtering was better, so I could say "any category except X, Y, and Z". (Checkboxes, anyone?) I agree that commercial ads shouldn't be under Miscellany, not when there's a category specifically for them...

Commercial is for Commercial Events, not Advertisments for something that is continuous. I suggest a policy of suspension for the first offence, suspension AND a fine for second, and that plus land confiscation (the parcel being advertised) for the third ...

I agree that commercial ads shouldn't be under Miscellany, not when there's a category specifically for them... I was part of the Event Workgroup meetings last year - and I can tell you the 'spirit' behind the Commercial category, at least: The Commercial category was added so that buisnesses that wanted to hold events, such as a "Grand Opening Party" could do so, and not have to select 'Miscellaneous' as their category. A true commercial 'event' was intended to have a fixed start & end time, have a host, and not be a perpetual thing. For example, here's an example of a commercial event, based on the spirit above: Grand Opening Party at Dazzle Texture Shop!
Tuesday, February 9, 2009 7:00pm - 8:00pm Location: Dazzle Texture Shop (Blue 45,45,45)
Join us for our grand opening celebration at Dazzle Texture Shop, Hosted by Dazzle McCoy! We'll be giving out free gifts while you're here, and a dancefloor and open bar has been setup just for this event. DJ Karma Karma will be spinning your requests, and everything in the store is half off for the duration of this event only! That, IMHO - is a Commercial Party/Event. Personally, I think it was a mistake to make a Commercial category. Not because I don't believe commercial enterprises should be able to hold events - on the contrary, if its done right, an event can be a great way to launch a product/service/store. I think its a mistake because many new folks that weren't even around for the events workgroup meetings can easily interpret the 'Commercial' category as a license to post whatever you want - even a classified ad - and just call it an event.

This thread is being locked for Linden Review. Please don't name names in the forums.
Torley Linden: I appreciation the public conscience. However, given the current system, "naming names" on the forums is not allowed per the Guidelines.
In addition, I share (as in "GRRRR I'M PISSED OFF!" the frustrations and confusions of the Events listings, including what Travis astutely pointed out.
I can only hope, eating watermelon as I type this, that someday we'll have a much-ameliorated system and we'll be able to laugh about how bad things were.
