Calling all people who attended Pumpkin Chunkin on Oct. 30 and expressed interest in a monthly compitition: this is the thread where we figure out how to make it even better.

The next event will be titled "Chunkin: The Great Turkey Toss" and probably held around the 27th of November (the Saturday after Thanksgiving in the US). I will try to have turkeys prepped by sometime next week, once I've made more progress on other projects that have my full attention right now.

WE NEED:
Scripters: I'm still an LSL newbie and my most sucessfull script so far has been a box that opens and closes in response to touch commands. We need something more sophisticated than what I can produce: there was talk of "pumpkin locator beacons" for missiles that kept going into neighboring sims, and it would be great if we could have a more intelligant scoring system that, say, reports back when a missile actualy hits the target. I tried doing it all with camera zoom last time, and it was darned tough.

Sugestions for an alternate location: I'll keep holding the event in Rizal if that turns out to be the best thing, because the Lindens pay me extra for events held there. However, it might be nice if we could worry less about pumpkins leaving the sim...I know I don't want anyone recieving complaints that turkeys are falling in their backyards. That probably means the use of an island sim, where everything stops at the borders, or a very large enclosed space. (Deevyde Maelstrom, whose Rube Goldberg chunker you all remember well and fondly, has such a large enclosed space that he offered to me for the first contest, but I turned it down because I thought it too small. I'm probably right, but I'll look at it again anyway.) The main requirements are that it be Very Big and Mostly Flat.

Voulenteer Judges: In the absence of a more automatic scoring system, your job would mainly consist of chasing down erant missiles and flying over the field to report the distance of a chunk.

Suggested changes to the rules: I know I'll be making a few, like "the judge actualy has to see the missile traveling in the air for it to count". Anything you think might improve the rules and post here, I'll think about.

To get the word out!: We definately need more builders. :)

When the server goes back up, I'll try to drop a notecard to the people who attended the last event and point them to this thread. I'll also provide a landmark to my dwelling in Montmartre: I've set up an eMail box on my front porch, into which you can drop a notecard and it will be sent to my RL email account. It's a better way to contact me if you have a lot you want to say.
