Hello all,

I have spent a great deal of my time in SL (almost 3 years now!) building vehicles, and scripting all the things i find myself wanting. I try to be a social guy, but sometimes i get my head burried in a script and I miss out on the networking that required to become successful in here :)

I would like to host an event to launch a new product that I have created. It requires a bit of space for a demonstration, and I don't have that kind of room on my land. Is there a Linden sponsored location that I can use for this kind of event?

Additionally I'd appreciate any advice from folks who've done this sort of thing, and might have some tips on making this a success, including marketting-type advice.

I hope this is a good location to post this! Thanks in advance to anyone with some feedback.

Cheers,
Trent

Well, first you need to set some goals for your party. Are you wanting to show off, bring more attention to your product, increase brand recognition, or do you have some other goal? These things will have bearing on how you approach the whole planning phase.

Locations are dependant on a few things. First, you'll want to choose a location that's appropriate to your party goals. In this case, since it sounds like you'll be launching a vehicle, why not talk to some of the owners of the raceways and see if anyone would be willing to rent the sim or parcel to you for a few hours? Second, you'll want to consider how many avatars will attend and how heavily scripted they are likely to be. For almost all party applications, I think island sims are the best choices, as there's no 40 avatar cap, and frequently processor-heavy scripts and builds can be rearranged for your party, if necessary. Finally, be sure you choose a location that's easy to direct people to-- make sure you can either landmark directly at the event or that you provide directional signs, localized tp scripts, or some other device to show people where to go for your event. (You'll be surprised at how often people forget this!)

As for advertisement and promotion of your event, there are many, many options and venues for this depending on the type of event, the type of product, and the market you're trying to draw.

Feel free to send me a message in game or by email (adri.saarinen (at) gmail (dot) com) if you'd like to discuss professional PR and Event Promotion services.

Good luck!

How much space do you need?
