And this forum is both the place to be heard and part of the problem. Post no events here, it says at the top .. and I see many don't read it.

Anyway, the point is "Events" is great! But, it's abused. And, as part of the SL Live Music scene, I'd like to offer this little idea for Linden Labs. ...

Live Music is an important part of the Second Life experience. At the moment, it’s a hit-or-miss proposition. But, that’s not the fault of the music community. It’s just too big a target for musicians, promoters and venue owners.

It needs a Sponsor. And Linden Labs is the perfect sponsor.

Linden employees may think that Events and Groups are sufficient. But, they are not. Events get bogged with too much info (and abuse) and Groups don’t hit a wide enough target … you might say they hit the choir, but miss the congregation.

So, what would this look like? Here are some ideas:

1) profiles for performers and venues.
2) added searchable info like genre (can choose several), performance style, 5 keywords to describe, etc
3) performers register with the system for a fixed charge per month to be listed.
4) venues register with the system for a minimum charge plus a surcharge to increase standing level in the searches.
5) Venues submit show schedules. Cannot submit for a performer who is not registered.

Can search but with more options.
Can click on venue or performer to get profile info on either. If they click on Venue, show the AV count for the sim at that moment.

Sadly, performers who also have a venue would need to pay both charges. But, that does happen.

Once people get used to using this system, Groups and Group IMs will change (hopefully drop) significantly, which will make for a better all-round experience. And, people will be able to find the show they might enjoy better than just hopping around the grid.

Some people are working on solutions to this. But, they can't hit a broad enough community to get the word out to millions of citizens. And keep hitting them as people come and go from the grid, not like LL can.

Thanks. And, I’d love to work on more details with someone and make this a true Win-Win for Second Life and Live Music.

FYI: I created a JIRA for this

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-5078

I would love votes and comments. Also, I am putting together a working demo over the next month. It should be ready to test by the New Year.
