Being this is the music section although not exactly for what I'm asking, I'd thought this would be the perfect place to ask what I need here. I'd like to see if I can get some help with the following:
When you download music (mp3) it shows several different things across each song. I would like to know what they mean.
1. Bitrates
2. Hits
3. Locations
4. Speed "Cable" or "T1 or higher" and "T3 or higher" I know what speed means here as well as cable, but what are the other 2?
I'm trying to learn about working with downloads as I need to get some music down.
Thanks for any info you can provide

Hmmm. Well, I can help with some of your questions: BITRATE: the bitrate is the number of times per second that the music is sampled. The 'sound' of the music is averaged over this period of time. The higher the number, the better the music will sound. so a bitrate of '2' would mean the average sound over a one-half second duration (2 times per second.). a bitrate of 10, is the average sound taken 10 times per second. a bitrate of 128 is sort of the minimum for good sounding music. 160 is better. 192 is even better, much beyond that and most people can't hear the difference. HITS and LOCATIONS: I don't know. Sounds like you're searching the web (with bit torrent, perhaps?) for music. In that case, these are measures of the number of different versions and copies of whatever you're searching on. The higher these numbers, the more likely you are to be able to download the MP3. NOTE THAT I DO NOT CONDONE THE THEFT OF COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL. Just because you can FIND music on the web, does NOT mean you should TAKE it. Make sure its in the public domain. SPEED: So a 'T-1' is the name of a particular kind of network connection to the internet. A 'T-1' is 1.54Megabits/second both UPSTREAM and DOWNSTREAM from the internet. and a T-3 is a 45Megabit connection both UP and DOWN stream. A typical DSL or Cable connection is NOT as fast sending data FROM your pc TO the internet...it's "asymmetric". T-1 and T-3 cost a lot of money. Your wallet would know if you had one. Your company or school might have a T-1 or T-3. Set your software to either Cable or DSL if you're at home.

Nope, not searching for "music to steal". This is a place where you can download music legally, in fact it's encouraged you join up.
Thanks for info.

My apologies, Cole. Glad to hear your intentions are good! I am sorry. These notes in the forums are permanent and read by many folks, so if you don't mind, I'll leave my prior comment -but toned down to be less accusatory. The basic comment will still apply to some future readers... CYA
