OK... I can see the point as far as the event name. It makes the event stand out in the list. But way too many people are doing it and it's just an eyesore. What I really don't understand is why SHOUT in the event descriptions? Does that achieve anything other than making it hard to read?
I know there's no way everyone is gonna agree not to do this, but I'm asking anyway. Is there any sense of just keeping these things tidy left in this world?
(P.S. I WAS GONNA SHOUT THIS ENTIRE MESSAGE TO MAKE A POINT, BUT IT ANNOYS ME SO MUCH I DIDN'T. SO HERE'S A BIT JUST TO REMIND HOW ANNOYING IT IS. KEEPING IN MIND THIS IS ONLY 3 LINES. TRY 10 LINES LIKE THIS AND SEE HOW OFTEN YOU RE-READ THE SAME PIECE.)
(EDIT: Interesting to note that I originally made the title of this post all in caps and the forums have converted it to capilise each word.)

I think part of the original gravitas is making one's event stand out next to another's. And I not only mean ALL CAPS, but
~~*^*YAY FANCY THINGS*^*~~ which I admittedly do on occasion too. And then once everyone in the room is shouting, so no one stands out--well, herein lies the rubbin' irony...
Whispering would make someone stand out against the noise. After all, in such a colorful world, surely a monochrome couple from the 50s down the street (in an inverse Pleasantville sort of way) would catch attention!
It kind of reminds me when I was involved in mixing music. Making everything LOUD and squashing dynamic range gave you an upfront very impressive sound, but there's be no place to grow, so it actually sounded, in its whole and total empirical entirety, very flat. As opposed to, say, a vintage recording where the strings come in subtletly and then raise themselves to a booming crescendo with plenty of horns blaring away. Relative range.

A monochrome toddler stands out even more!

Why do they yell? To show you which events to avoid, no?

Why such short advance notice for events?

Looking at the SL event listing at Eventful.com it is easy to put numbers on something I had noticed before. Most "events" seem to be posted almost immediately before the event occurs. It is friday afternoon, so I look at thursday to see a whole day of events, then look at how the number of events falls by about 50% each day. Event planners are not planning very far ahead, or everyone is suddenly running out of ALL CAPS CHARACTERS to use in the announcements . When I posted my event for this coming tuesday it was one of 4 events listed, now it us to one of 13. It will be buried by tuesday, I'm sure. Here are the event counts as I write this thu: 524 fri: 177 sat: 100 sun: 47 mon: 18 tue: 13 wed: 8 Perhaps just adding three catagories (nude, yard-sale, and *ingo) would help some. If there are going to be 500+ events listed, better sorting would sure help. Lacking that, about the best you can do it maintain a group interested in whatever you are doing, and spam your group to get the word out.
