Yes, I'm new, and I wasn't sure this was the best place to ask, but... well, bear with 'teh n00b' for two more sentances.

Has SL ever had any theatre? Not like, "let's load up a movie and invite all our friends!" theater, but as in a staged production of classics old and new, Shakespeare-on-up-to-now stuff.

Thanks in advance.

I asked the exact same question when I was new. I was told it has occasionally but it's not a regular thing, apparently people were having trouble doing it for some reason. With the upcoming SLTV stuff machinima may well get more popular, which could increase interest in theatre.

Yes there was theater in SL's past. Look up the Globe theater in the history wiki.

I'd really like to see more machinima, so very neat. I hope this SLTV takes flight, I saw a little bit of that live concert last night and was impressed at the potential. ^.^ Maybe a theater troupe can be started again. I know (relatively new myself espcially on the forums) that I'd really enjoy becoming involved in something like that.

Scener's competitions

We have never done anything that involved rehearsing, but the Phoenix Spa has hosted numerous Scener's Competitions for improvisational actors. Actors (or Sceners) are given the characters and setting and must improvise the scene from there. Sometimes scenes have been played as comic, dramatic, or sexy, but past scenes have included themes such as: Hitchhiker murder, Secretary Mind Control, Alien Abduction, Schoolteacher Snaps, Border Patrol, and Dungeon Inquisition. We generally have a scener's competition once per month so look for one in late september, usually on a Saturday night. :-D
