Hello, I'm the events coordinator at Abbotts Aerodrome. Recently, we have started hosting regular events at Abbotts, all themed around Avation and other recreational activities involving aviation. So far we've had a plane building contest and a skydiving contest. What I'd like to know is what you all would like to see happen at Abbotts. We're going to be hosting events every week, with cash prizes to winners, so this is your chance to get us to host more events every week for more chances to win for everybody. Please post your ideas here so we can consider them ^^

People don't read this forum. Don't worry about it. ;)

Ok, i have a event/game idea.
Sort the luggage. The automated machine has gone haywire and it is to the contestant to sort it all out.
This just what i come up with right now, so no detailed game mechanics thought out.

So chew on that, and maybe you can do something with it.

Well we could do a little cross promotion and I could get Garth to get out the biplanes and have a good ol fashion dogfight at your airstrip if there is room. We used to do it in the vehicle sims. I have been looking for an excuse to host a dogfight event again.

You'd be surprised but dogfights are already in the works. We're working on a scoring system that is compatible with Cubey's Terra Combat System 2.0 that can be deployed at the vehicle sims. Once that is online we will be having weekly dogfighting tournaments.

How about airplane races or tiny airplane races? Skydiving contests, dog fights and building contests are great. Does anyone have an ultralight or hang glider?

Really? Sounds neat. :) But I'm confused? I always thought Cubey's fighting system needed to be over rez enabled land to be able to rez it's bullet objects so people could fight?

Are you planning to rent all the vehicle sims every week and rez-enable the whole of them?

Or are you going to be shifting to a sensor based system like that ccc combat system thingie thats already out there?

Will there be prizes like that in that ccc tournamet thats happening this weekend? :)

That'd be so cool! If so I'm so going over and rebuy the lastest version of a cubey plane again when it comes out! :D

Nope, Cubey's combat system was the first (before the ccc combat system) to be able to be used anywhere..as it does not need to rez a bullet.....so can be used anywhere..

I've enjoyed the skydiving competitions very much.

I'm not as sure about the dogfighting, because, well... Cubey has done a *lot* for the community and makes great stuff and I regularly use a lot of his stuff. But his aircraft flying controls just don't work for me for dogfighting. The mouse-based flyers made by Callahan, Neutra, Marlin, and others are much more natural-feeling to me for dogfighting purposes, and they all use the CCC which isn't compatible with the TCC.

What would be really cool is if Jill and Cubey could agree to make their combat systems compatible. Then an Abbot's-sponsored dogfighting competition would be more appealing to me.

As for other types of events? Aerial slaloms or obstacle course racing? (through big hoops or between pylons or whatnot)

Team skydiving drops? Skydiving through obstacles? (skyboards to steer during freefall - having to pass through hoops on the way down)

... huh, guess I'll just have to save up my stipend and find out on my own. :) Mean time I think I'm going to give that ccc tournament chance. I flew one yesterday was really neat. :D

Air races are in the works as well. Right now we're considering methods to prevent cheating. Skydiving Contests are already in, done every Friday, and building contests are done every so often. As for ultralights and hang gliders Apotheus Silverman sells them both in his hangar in Abbotts Aerodrome.

How about aviation/air combat history trivia contests?

That's a good idea. I'll see about getting together some good trivia and we can have a little gameshow.

Nope. No rezzing at all in my system. It works using sensors and shoots particle-based tracers to help you aim.

I think the population is split on that point. Certainly for helicopters and such, mouselook steering helps, but then you're *forced* to fly in 1st person POV. For planes, mouselook really isn't the best choice, in my opionion. Because of that, and because I'm just not a fan of mouselook steering, I don't put that in my planes.

I find keyboard steering to be a better choice because it replicates a plane's yoke movement, and is consistent with flight sim games.

Oh no argument there. I prefer non-mouselook for regular flying. I actually like the more unusual steering systems like you use in your balloons. I also really enjoy flying the Mheve (can't remember who makes it). Not only does it remind me of Nausicaa, but it's challenging to fly well and feels very glider-ish.

It's just that in air combat it feels more immersive to me to use cockpit first-person view and to chase my target with the mouse, using keys to control my altitude and velocity and airbrakes and whatnot.

Well just a sidenote before we go back into discussions about events:

Personally, I think each system has it's own niche. I prefer keyboard though. The reason is, with keyboard, maneuvering becomes a key. You cant turn on a dime, and shaking someone off your tail becomes a challenge. It's not a game of follow and shoot. It's getting in on their tail and filling them full of particle lead. Half the fun is just trying to maneuver your way in behind your target while avoiding getting someone on your own rear. Not fun if everybody can turn on a dime.

Anybody doing aerial acrobatics? Solo or team? Then you could organise contests... Just the ability to place unmoveable markers at any altitude makes training for acrobatics easier.
