Since August of 2006, I've had open mics every Sunday night between 5 and 7 SL time in Windermere. During that time, the sim runs very well except that approximately 70% of the time, the sim crashes during our event. Sometimes it has crashed twice during the event.
I've tried to be a good sport about it. I even used to give out prizes for folks who returned first after the crash. I've reported it. Interestingly, when I have reported it, often there is no crash the very next week. It's starting to get tiresome, though. I am wondering if the Lindens have some available time to check out the history of Windermere and to note that in fact we do crash pretty much on a regular basis on Sundays between 5 and 7 and to see if maybe there is something that can be done about it?
This time not only did the sim crash, but it hasn't come back up. It isn't like we're doing show and tells. Or anything involving pyrotechnics. We're just reading poems. Can anyone anywhere do anything about this? What on EARTH do I have to do?

Also, I have reported this and gotten one and only one response advising me to check with the sim owner. But, this is on the mainland. So wouldn't the sim owner be . . . LL?

Whatever was done this time, it isn't letting us back into the sim. Usually when this happens, and as I've indicated it has happened DOZENS of times, we are able to get back in within a few minutes. But the sad thing is that it takes its toll. Half of the poets leave and don't come back. It's sad. It's really sad that SL can't sustain such a simple event as a poetry reading in what should be excellent land since it is right next to land owned by Lindens!
Gah. Ok several minutes later I was able to get back by going into a neighboring sim and walking over. If this happened now and then it wouldn't be such a big deal. But the fact that it happens so very often over so very very little is a bit boggling. Any suggestions, anyone?

My suggestion would be to change the day and time of your event. Sundays have been unreliable for a very long time. It's when the largest nunber of concurrent avatars are recorded and has for some months been a land of broken TPs, crashing out, incompleted transactions, group IMs failing and other entertainments.
Of all the time of the week to run an event, while your chances of attracting a crowd are greater on Sundays than on other days of the week, your chances of encountering serious problems with the grid are also much greater. Check out the postings to the Linden blog about problems and note how often those occur on a Sunday afternoon/evening.

Can anyone anywhere do anything about this? What on EARTH do I have to do? It's such a small virtual world I just happened to be "flying by" last night and I heard, stopped, and listened in on a few poems at your place Was interesting... While I can't offer any help at your current location, and would imagine that there is not much that can be done, other than to wait for future server and software updates to hopefully improve performance on the grid, especially for older sims like the one in the area you are referring to, what I can offer is private sim space for your sunday gatherings. I have a few locations I can offer you where you will likely have the whole sim to yourself, and the class of the sim server will be an improvement over the one you've been using. I can offer this to you free of charge. Catch me offline if interested... take care... *edit* just noticed that this is an older thread! Perhaps things have improved? Obviously your still going strong as I witnessed last night...
