Whatever Happened to Iron Perth?

Right after the events hosts took an economic hit when the Linden events grants were pulled, several people from the business community offered to replace those funds or donate items for people producing events that were 'quality events.' My take on this is that most of those offers were made spontaneously and then reconsidered, as most of the people I have approached In-Game for support never returned my IM, even after saying that they would replace events funds, donate prizes for events, etc. Among these is Iron Perth, who said he/she represented one of the currency trading companies. I had great hopes that something might work out because it seems to be a winning combination: a higher profile among the very market most likely to buy Lindens (the social player). However, I never received a response to my IM and my boss, (Persephone Phoenix) received only a vague response to her first IM, with no response whatsoever to her 2nd and 3rd queries.

Was this a hoax? Is there really an agency, represented by Iron Perth, who is going to sponsor events? Has anyone gotten funding from there? Also, is there anyone who is going forward with the plans to have some kind of arts council or arts granting agency? If so, I would be happy to be involved in such an endeavour, as it is sad to see content providers (in terms of events content) put in all of that time and effort for free, often even paying out of pocket to entertain others: an activity that benefits SL and the Lindens, so should rightfully be paid for.

Any events sponsor looking for prizes is free to IM me. I have some furniture I could give away or maybe even a free massage at the SPA. Contact me in game. (Tries to always put her money where her mouth is. ;-D) ~ Cherry

I'd support an arts council/agency - with prizes and (limited funds).

I'm guessing you've been hoaxed btw.

Yes, this seems to show that even many people say 'Private foundations will fund good events', it doesn't seem to be so.

Who wants to pour in a couple hundred dollars of real USD + work to administer into SL? And why would he/she?

The only one funding events is Anshe Chung, but she asks that the event be held at her shop locations -- acceptable for some (too much for me), but it's more of a business than a foundation type decision.

Who's going to fund events that don't seem to give 'monetary returns'? Would you, as a business pay around 500-1000 L$'s for 6-10 people to see your banner ad in the event background?

For eg. today's events (non-mature?) are a catastrophe -- just an extract:

Aside from a yard sale, project meeting (for just some people), and a boxing event (unique in SL, yes!), not too good.

I know, I'm repeating myself, though...

Soooooo.... the lindens should nerf the popular events, I take it. Better be careful with that. If boxing gets too popular it'll be next. Or yard sales. The thought process behind these event changes is truely dizzying

As I see it the problem isn't that there are so many *ingo games. It is the sparsity of other events. I'd like to see a little more variety

The fact that there are way, way, way too many Tringo events on the calendar for some people... is a symptom of the problem..... not the problem itself.

Putting restrictions on the Calendar is a bad idea. You're treating the symptom rather than the condition.

Give us event filters & categories..... and stop restricting us on what we can post to the calendar. Everyone will be happy for it in the end.

It's up to US, the players, to bring more types of events to the table. Not for the Lindens to force the issue!!!!

Amazing, but there seems to be a change. I have no idea how long it will last, though...
The show and tell events have reappeared, as has the Primtionary. Though I did try to hold a Quiz, too, but only one person came :-( Maybe it was the timing.

Anyway, you must realize, that hosts are paying for the events from their pocket. So now, they not just 'give' their personal time, but also their Linden Dollars.

We sure would need some kind of support, be it just a sponsorship or advertisement. However, the Metaadverse.com thing (banners) don't seem to be going well. Not that much advertisers -> not much money. I've had 154 impressions for a mere L$ 30 altogether, maybe the banner thing is more well suited for clubs than just smaller, casual events.
