((UPDATED)) Hopefully this will bump, because the event is next week. I wanted to remind everyone. It’s finally here, the inaugural “NOT JUST ANOTHER” –Texuring Competition!! Hosted by Glowbox Designs and sponsored by V3 Group. Huzzah! Do you think you have what it takes to reign supreme in this one-of-a-kind texturing competition? Perhaps you care not for fame and glory, and are focused only on the riches which will bestow you. This month’s texturing topic is: Hot Dog Vendor First and Only Place: L2000 You are free to register anytime, however, the model will not be picked up until the 19th. So, swing by Glowbox Designs in the time being and get a look at the competition display to get a better idea of what’s in store for you--the display is located on the roof, by the large glowing green box. What are you waiting for?! SIGN UP FOR THE "NOT JUST ANOTHER" TEXTURING COMPETITION--we will keep you informed with updates, deadlines, and events. We also have an "NJA" group to join--that's the best way to keep up-to-date.

I see nothing wrong with posting the event in advance, but people *could* forget all about the event by the time it's open. As for the amount, hard to say, different amounts mean different things to different people. And lastly, yes, I think it's a fun idea for a contest, I'm sure there will be plenty of respondents.

i dont think anyone interested *could* forget in 2 days but i guess it is possible as far as the money ... well like they said above me, it means different things to different ppl a noobie not wanting to put cash into SL and working to get ahead (like i used to do) it may seem like a great bonus to others (like me now) its more of a honor thing oh i assume that we get a copy of the cart to take home with us right? i cant texture map anything worth while by glancing at a model and walking away

Of course you get the model--all mod
I'm thinking of augmenting the competition a bit--making it an entire day contest (as opposed to an hour). Also, I'm thinking of raising the award to L2000.

Seriously, I cringed when I saw the one hour thing. One hour? No way in SLH.
I'm glad you upped it to an all day thing. Personally, I would like a full week due to an erratic schedule. But mainly a full week to get to know the build, the in-and-outs of it, trying different concepts, and things like that. Even something as simple as a workable colour scheme on a decent logo can chew a few hours. And that's not even getting into decent texture sheets and repeats/offsets on the prims.
But I know good work on a tight deadline can be a challenge.
I don't know if I'll participate, but I'll definitely be watching from under my rock.

Abu, yes, I completely agree--one hour is no where near long enough to squeeze out the quality I want to see.
There are already a handful of very talented artists and designers that have signed up, so the bar has been raised. We don't want a simple 'smack it on' texture approach. We are looking for detail, custom placement, grunge and dirt maps...realism.
A clever artist can make this simple hot dog vendor come to life.
Similar to Glowbox and V3 Group, we want the 'Not Just Another' brand to represent quality and inspiration.
Regardless of whether you participate or not, please spread the word. V3 Group has graciously alloted a plot of land in Silicon City for the competition...things are heating up.
Stay Tuned!

I've changed the time limit to 24 hours. I don't know what I was thinking before making it one hour--I'm at time...quite loony.
So...you are now able to register at anytime before the 19th of October--the model, however, will not be made available at the kiosk until that time.
We have some pretty prestigious judges involved...some really talented wizards. Things are getting exciting. And it's great to have V3 Group offer up a parcel of land on Silicon City for the event and kiosk.
Stay tuned...for the time being, the kiosk is still on the roof of GBD.

From: Chas Connolly I'm still waiting for the texturing tip in this thread. lol...you had to didn't you. You know, people put all this work into something special, and certain people have to negatize it just because they have issues. I think putting this in the Texturing Tips forum should be completely acceptable. Tip of the Day: Get your butt out to the NJA Event and practice your texturing skills. Events can be a good way to combine discipline with creation...and it's also a great way to collaborate and network with fellow artists. You're welcome.

Yes, I had to, as you seem to believe you're above forum posting guidelines, and you like the sound of your own voice far too much. Faaaaaar too much. This is a texturing tips forum. The events forum is elsewhere. Post there. As for negativity, please read your own 'I'm so superior' posts before you criticise others.

And you are nasty. As if I'm the only one that bends the rules in this 'no general forum' message board. Sheesh. You know, I may be a lot of things, but at least I'm not a humbug like you. And it's not that I like the sound of my own voice...it's that I enjoy life. I love all aspects of life and I'm just a passionate guy. I consider myself very altruistic and--joking aside--pretty humble. I'm in SL to collaborate and create...not to fight. You're SL profile states, "Hi, I'm a friendly guy exploring the boundless possibilities of SL." That's a load of crap if you ask me. Nothing friendly about you.

I'd like to post a picture of both the winner's poster, and the new competition ad print. The turn out was lite, but that was to be expected as it is brand new. Next month, however, we've got some truly exciting new elements, talent, judges, and sponsors. Check out the build, and see if you're interested--things are heating up, and the pots getting larger. and Thanks to all those that participated!
