Lo - using man-years of research and advanced technolgies (and some holistic mushrooms) I have made a clear texture that IS ONLY 1 PIXEL BY 1 PIXEL in size - making it a staggering 25 TIMES MORE EFFICIENT than yours.

:D

(although, at L$10 for the upload, it's the most expensive pixel I own!)

Sorry to rain on your parade, but I will be cause I can, hehe. :p Since SL's gonna resize it to 32x32 anyway, you both come out even in the end. 32x32 is the minimum allowable user-created texture size. Every so often I spot a 16x16 in the texture console, but since I can't get the system to accept one myself, I'm assuming those must be special Linden magic.

The good news is that 32 x32 = 1024, which makes your texture upload a real bargain at just under one Linden Dollar per pixel. Basically, you paid L$10 for one pixel and you got 1023 more, absolutely free. What a deal! :D

Why are people still uploading clear textures when there are free ones out there?

Get a card from them. It lists 3 sources of freebies. Yadni's junkyard is a great source of free or nearly free stuff.

I'm sure there's a transparent texture KEY out there in the public domain, isn't there?

I have seen some - somewhere - but these really only help with script applied textures. It is still useful to have one in your inventory for simple building.

For the scripterati: I uploaded a 32x32 (no free pixels - no free radicals - no preservatives - and especially, no colourants) alpha tex with a key of 67e14e25-d4ae-4859-55cc-dd1e07db8d9d

Chosen: Are those 1023 free pixels protected by GNU, or am I allowed to resell them for profit? :D

I have an extra special, ultra clean, completely clear texture, far superior to the rest! (that was sarcasm, actually i didn't know about the 32x32 pixels so thanks for the info!!)

Why force everybody's clients to load all of these independently uploaded fully transparent textures when you can set the transparency to 100% via LSL?

I generally leave every face that's going to be fully transparent textured with the Blank texture. Then I drag this script to the prim:

CODE

default {
state_entry() {
llSetAlpha(0.0, ALL_SIDES);

llRemoveInventory(llGetScriptName());
}
}

Then I shift-select each face that's not going to be transparent with the Select Texture radio button selected and change the Transparency (%) back to zero for just those faces.

(It may be useful to have View->Highlight Transparent checked so you can easily find the faces of the fully transparent prim.)

I thought scripted objects caused more lag. No?

Good thing I included this line:

llRemoveInventory(llGetScriptName());

which removes the script directly after the transparency is set :)

Oh ok, I don't know anything about scripting.

you will not find a 100% alpha texture key in that list. altho
use these when you can becuase they are already downloaded on every single client that connects.
