Hi all,
I would like to add a default robot or mech Av, a default furry Av and perhaps a PG, subtle, full-body skin to the Library. In addition I am thinking of adding them to the clothing tutorial on Orientation Island.
Looking for submissions. All items need to be fully permissible.
Accepting submissions to my Av Ryan Linden. I am of course willing to pay for these. Please include a US$ price with your submission.
I will stop considering submissions next Wed Oct. 19th 2005.
Thanks and I look forward to seeing your work.

I wonder if my primitar re-creation could make it in. It might be good for a little history lesson to the newer residents. It needs a few adjustments, and anyone willing to review it would be most appreciated. Just contact me and I'll send a TP.

Some Residents have responded to me in-world with concern that the default Av's chosen would put other Residents creating similar assets at a disadvantage.
I see it this way: almost all active Residents participate in the SL economy over their lifetime. One of the more complete and satisfying experiences in SL is self-creation and the flexibility to iterate in real time. It is not my intention to bypass this experience but support it. One thing we are always striving for at LL is to shorten the length of time to success. Success is what drives them further down the path of discovery. If a new Resident can put on a complete Av that comes close to their ideal without having to adjust 100 sliders, create textures or attach prims then they will feel more confident to meet the new world. SL is still a small place, one trip to the WA where they might encounter 2 other new Residents wearing the same Av is all they will need to get them looking for different outfits, more attachments. However, the 1st success is still there -- fresh in their mind. For these reasons I believe that they are more likely to seek out variety and patronize the many vendors who make similar creations.
For those new Residents who wish to join affinity groups, wearing default Av’s that denote such affinity allows vets within such groups a means to recognize potential friends.
Some clarification – all default Av’s chosen will have generic names. While new Residents will be able to see the creator of the outfit by looking at it’s components, there is some friction there.
This is an open discussion. I welcome your opinions.

I think it's a good idea to give people more stuff to play with out of the gate. I thought about submitting something but don't have anything I'm not already selling successfully and have been too busy with RL work to put any time in on anything. I think part of the problem you might be having getting submissions is that it's time consuming to make anything worth having and the return on that time is much greater selling an item over and over again than releasing the rights to it with a one time fee. The person who does so then gets to compete against their own product that everyone already has for free. That's a bit of a hard sell. I hope some people will come through, but maybe extend the deadline. People are more likely to donate or sell the rights to things they've already made a good return on and are ready to retire.

Ryan, if you want to extend the deadline, I'd still be interested in submitting. I had planned on making something for you, but I ended up spending most of the week on another urgent project, and there just wasn't time for both. If you can give it another week or so I can put something together for you. Let me know.

extended deadline
10-20-2005 08:23
I am going to extend the deadline for submission to Oct 28th 05'.
If you feel like making *new* items I welcome them of course however it was always my expectation that people would be submitting items already made and perhaps 2 to 3 generations old.
Thanks for the responses so far.

Thanks for the responses so far. I'm glad you're extending the deadline. I'll make some time this week to put something together. If I could offer a thought as to why something "2 to 3 generations old" didn't strike me as an option, I feel kind of the same way as Chip, and I'm sure others do as well. Things that already exist continue to sell. I have yet to find a reason to retire anything. As the population continues to grow, there are plenty of people to keep consumption at a steady rate.

iv only been in SL for around 5 days and thanks to all the helpfull people in luskwood i finally had the 900$ needed for my new kitty av iv never seen my av that i payed for but as soon as i got it i wanted to make it my own i changed the hair color so far (thats all i know how ^^ my point is giveing them something to start with is a great idea now people might hate me for this :3 but i know of 3 "free" furry avs floating around out there i think this would be a great idea to give the new players coming in because they are allready out there for FREE so new players are not geting anything extra over older players and the creator isent going to lose any money from sales of the av i have an orange-ish fox and yellow orange fox and a ringtail that i picked up for free i can send them to you so you can see who made them and contact them and pay them ^^; nice littel bonus for releacing a free av to the public whem most cost around 900L

$10 to a doghnut they weren't released for free but due to people either getting around permissions or permissions getting snafu-ed by updates they have lost their creator information and have become open source. (a situation I know all too well) Since my skins are being given out by mentors and others for newbies anyway I don't know if there would be a point to having it added to the default library.

dident know that :/ well than if they can find out who is the orignal creator is i still think it would be the best idea to use one thats allready opensource and even if it wasent ment to be that way its still a littel compensation
