The clothesyou see in shops looks alot more detailed then creating things withprims. How do you mold it to a body, like a bikini? Also how do they make those pictures that go up to show the product?

Where have you searched so far for information, and what have you found?

Clothes aren't made with prims. Check out the appearance mode in SL.

Adam,

I admire your inquisitions, however you really need to go read this stuff and familiarize yourself with the product (SecondLife). The forums are to discuss issues not to explain the game in detail.

By asking questions here continuously, you are going to lose answers that would have normally helped you in game because of the general nature of your questions.

Even in game you asked me how much money I made. After I told you I wasnt going to answer such a personal question, you kept going and didnt understand.

Think about it.

To start customizing avatars, download the files shown here:

http://secondlife.com/community/templates.php

You need a paint package (PhotoShop and Paint Shop Pro are popular) and of course L$ to upload the images you create.

Gimp is a free alternative if you dont have photoshop or paintshop as well you can find that at www.gimp.org Its a bit more complicated to do some things with it but alot of things can turn out better. I end up using a combination of photoshop and/or paintshop and then finishing it in gimp. You have to fit the clothing to the template itself as well. I would highly reccomend using these templates however.... http://robinwood.com/Catalog/Technical/SL-Tuts/SLDownloads/UVMaps/Layered-UVs-PSD.zip

You will need to create a different layer to start the clothing however and remember while you can design at 1024x1024 you should resize before bringing into SL becuase large textures can take awhile to load :). If your interested i do some one on one lessons with some of the things needed to do for this in a simple manner in world for 250L (one time fee) and will take the time out that you yourself need to get what i have to teach down. I cant help greatly by giving you tips but there are other tutorials out there as well if you wish I'm just offering up as i have seen many a people struggle that i have been able to help :).

Ahhh, so what you are saying is "do all of my work for me, or fuck off". The answers to most of your questions are readily available in several places, yet you still want to be spoonfed. Well, this "annoying" resident refuses to spoonfeed you. I would be happy to help if you can show me that you have tried to help yourself as well, but it's blatantly obvious that you have not.

wew im with you sister!

Heres what ya do to make clothes, actually its quite complicated it took me months and i still suck at it. First you must have a program in your PC that can make an alpha texture, aka tga textures. Those are ones that can be imported into the game with transparant backgrounds. Next d/l the templates or patterns in the SL d/l sight, personally i like Chris Midnights best, his have more guidelines.
Then you open one of those, say an upper body one in PS, PSP etc and make a copy of it, then draw, or copy and paste a texture on that, form it to fit the pattern, that takes just knowing your PS proggy very well..so if you dont know that, look in google and take an online class, or buy a book like i did. Make sure all your backgrounds of your clothes pieces are transparant, use the magic wand tool, delete the template layers and merge whats left. Save as a TGA texture, import into SL ($10L) as you bring into SL it gives you a drop down menu as to how to save it, upper body female, male, lower body etc.
After you have done all of that..go into appearances and drop the texture into the texture slot, say your doing a shirt, create a new shirt on your av, then do the texture drop.

Thats the short version, so when you see all these nice clothes in SL that someone has made, and you see the nice price, just pay it, HOURS of work have gone into its creation, and if you dont have myriads of patience..dont even try it..

Hope this helps :)

I was new too, Adam. Still am, actually. However, I made an effort to help myself before asking others to do everything for me. And I learned a lot. I know how to build things, how to stream music, how to play live shows, how to add my own textures in Photoshop to make clothing from existing templates, and how to find what I want to find - all with little to no help from others. It's because I took a couple of seconds to search for information before asking others. You? You just ask people to do everything for you as you waste resources in a camping chair when you could be out in the world learning instead. As I said, I would have been glad to give you information if I was adding on to what you had already found. But you have not even LOOKED. Many people have told you many times to use the search function in the forums and in the game, but you continue to ask questions that show that you have not done so.

People would be much more willing to help you (and you will learn a lot more) if you use your brain and actually try, and stop being such a jerk when people suggest that you do so.

Joking aside Adam.....people DO get a little prickly when they open the forums and every new post is another question that CAN be answered by doing a search. The forum search facility is actually pretty good and you'll get a lot quicker responses from them than by opening a million NEW threads....whereby a LOT of people think...."hmmm....troll...I'll ignore".
Failing that....sit down.....write out all the burning questions you'd like answers to, and put them in to one big fat question.....
I'm pretty sure you'll get far better responses this way.

And now he won't even be able to find it, as there is not a chance in hell he will bother looking here.
