I just made a proposition, 1781.

It probably won't do much, but if they see enough votes, maybe it will sink in.

I think any move to deny the community a right to a voice is a bad idea.

Period.

@Vivianne

Fantastic idea, and certainly within plans of LL. But too early unless they manage to fix all the hassle bugs within the next 3 weeks so there will be time for feedback.

i just removed a vote from two other proposals that had mroe than one vote in them so i could apply 3 votes to this.

even with decentralizaion, we could still use forums for meaningful discussion about a platform.

in the meantime i would like to strongly suggest that we, as a community, lighten these forums up. constructive criticism is great, but attacking others brings down the entire experince. if we want to have a chance of this proposal making an impact.. the change must start with us, not LL.

show them that we value these forums through respect for them and each other.

Forget about it. LL has never given a flying f**k about what we wanted in the past, they just give that impression by giving into a few minor things here and there. :(

LL closing the forums is a CLEAR message they don't want to hear us they won't care about a vote. Telling someone to vote is their way to shove an issue under the rug.

I voted all but one vote for this, since I thought there was also another pretty good one.

I pulled votes from three other proposals and put 6 votes on the save the forums proposal. However, I think they have quite solidly made up their minds on this, and, as with open registration, it won't matter how many votes are placed, they will ignore the community and do as they damned well please.

Typical Linden Labs operating procedure: Decide something isn't perfect -> Remove it, even though it was at least partially working -> Provide no replacement functionality until months later, if at all -> Ignore the cries of pain from the users of the product, since they are not the ones providing the Venture Capital.

I agree that some conversations in these forums can get pretty out of control, but thats true of most forums with a more than a few people on them.

What LL is doing by closing the conversational parts of the forums is basically telling people to shut up, they don't want to hear us. Granted they are a company with a product and they have that right but it very clearly shows what they think of their customers.

Besides all the flaming and backbiting that happens here, there have also been several issues that have been brought to light through people talking about them, bugs that have been fixed, exploits prevented, new residents have been helped over and over by more experienced residents. Add to that the nice little bit of advertising we've all been able to do in new products, classifieds, events, etc.

Even if they do leave us the ability to show off new products and announce special events and ask the occasional question, without the conversation forums what percentage of people are really going to bother coming back to see any of it?

I will admit it, I come to the forums to read about and participate in discussions, laugh over the occasional joke, etc. Browsing the new products and scripts and events is something I do in between exchanges. I honestly don't know that I'll bother to check back, at least not very often, once the conversations are gone.

Well, I wonder how much bandwidth per month one would need for this forum.

I have free hosting somewhere (reliable, too) where I could host a forum for the conversational parts of SecondLife. If everyone's up for it, I'll do it. If it won't work, I wont bother.

Basically, I'll have all of the general discussion/help forums and Classified forums.

What do you lot think?

I vote to close these forums. Every time I post something, thinking it looks so cool, it ends up looking dumb.
